Jeanne Hurford

d. November 7, 2020

Jeanne M. Hurford – beloved sister, aunt, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away Saturday November 7, 2020. Jeanne was born on September 11, 1942 in Elizabethtown NY, to William M. Wattie & Augustine N. Norman Wattie. She attended a one room schoolhouse in Beekmantown, NY until the larger school was built.  She graduated from Beekmantown High School and attended Plattsburgh University. In 1962, she married Dale Tremblay and together they had 2 sons, Mark and Michael. Jeanne’s family moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico where she began her long employment at Los Alamos National Laboratory as a computer administrator until her retirement in 2005. After Jeanne’s retirement from LANL, she traveled to Rome and various countries on a spiritual trip with members of her church.

Jeanne was deeply involved with the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and taught catechism in the 90’s and was a long-standing, dedicated member of IHM Parish for more than 30 years.  She was involved with Religious Education, bible studies and other ministries.  A fixture at Mass, she never hesitated to give of herself when called upon.

Jeanne joined Boy Scout Troop 122 with her grandson Taylor in 2009 and was an active adult leader for the next five years, earning a Troop 122 Century award for service. She organized Troop participation in IHM garage sales, coordinated service projects with the Alzheimer’s Association, and took the lead in continuing the Troop tradition of setting up farolitos around Ashley Pond on Christmas Eve. As both a Scouter and an active member of the IHM, she also assisted in teaching Ad Alterei Dei, the Catholic religious award for Boy Scouts.

Jeanne was well-loved in her neighborhood for planning block parties and often referred to as Aunt Jeanne by all the children and families who grew up on her street.

Jeanne is survived by her brothers, John (Linda) and Bill (Donna); her sister, Barbara; her grandchildren, Melissa Smith (Chris), Heather O’Friel, and Taylor Tremblay (Natalie); great-grandchildren, Christopher James (CJ) Smith, Benjamin Lee Morton, Hailey Ann Morton, Jesse James Tremblay and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded by her sons, Mark and Michael; her sister, Kathleen and a nephew, Phillip.

Due to COVID, a funeral service and burial will be scheduled for the spring of 2021.
