Bernie L. Jacquez , Age 88, Born on May 24, 1933, in Cleveland, NM and lifelong resident of Espanola (La Mesilla) passed away on July 31, 2021.

He was a devoted father and husband who enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, sports (Avid 49er, Yankees and Celtics fan), talking with friends, had a great sense of humor and loved his pets.

Bernie was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during the Korean War as a Gunners Mate Petty Officer 3rd Class. He was a retired sheet metal worker with Local Union 49 having worked in Los Alamos for 38 years with the Zia Company, PAN AM Services, JCI and has been an active member of Local Union 49 for 45 years.  He was Union Steward for 10 years and Local Union 49 Board of Trustees, and Sheet Metal Apprentice Committee Member. He served as Espanola City Councilman for one term during the 1960’s. He also was an Espanola Valley Little League coach and umpire for six years and umpired Northern New Mexico Hardball League for 5 years.

He was preceded in death by his Father, Tomas Jacquez; Mother, Rosita Jacquez; wife, Geraldine Jacquez; daughter-in-law, Evelyn Jacquez; brothers, Henry (Lucy), Thomas (Katie), Joe Arthur (Josie), and Eddie; sisters, Mary (Seledon) and Amelia (Loretto).  He is survived by his children, Gene, Naidene (Jake) and Angelo (Romelyn); sister, Sofia Baros (Raymond); Grandchildren, Josh, Claire, Hayley, and Princess Naidene; Great Grandchild, Violet Ray; Mother of his children, Lorraine Seay Smith; many close nephews and nieces and special close friends, Joe Vences Roybal, Patricia Martinez, Lupe Jacquez, and Sandra Garinger.

Public visitation will be held on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at 11:00 a.m in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel with a burial to follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.

Serving as pallbearers are Josh Jacquez, Michael Jacquez, Robert Romero, Joey Martinez, Pete Mascarenas, and Jake Martinez. Honorary Pallbearers are Joe Vences Roybal and Patricia Martinez.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Espanola Animal Shelter, 108 Hamm Parkway, Espanola, NM 87532, may be made in memory of Bernie Jacquez.
