Theresita "Tita" Trujillo

d. March 4, 2021

Theresita “Tita” Trujillo , beloved wife, mother of three sons, grandmother of four and great-grandmother of ten, passed away peacefully in her home in Abiquiu, surrounded by family on Thursday, March 4, 2021 after a brief illness.

Tita was born on July 18, 1925, in Abiquiu to Juan B. Martinez and Aleja Martinez.  Tita spent her school years at St. Catherine’s in Santa Fe then married Jose Ramon “Joe” Trujillo of Ojo Caliente.  Tita was a lifelong resident of Northern New Mexico spending time in Ojo Caliente and Los Alamos, but always calling Abiquiu home. She worked at and retired from the Los Alamos National Lab. Together, Tita and Joe raised three sons, Patricio “Pat”, Miguel “Mick,” and Carlo “Gino” Trujillo.

Tita was the proud matriarch of a large, extended family. She was supportive and encouraging to family and friends. Tita was an independent caring and kind person. She was known for her cooking, especially her leche dulce and pastelitos that she was always willing to share.  She lived her life with a great devotion to her Catholic faith and family.  Her pride and joy were her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren, and she would spend countless hours watching “her” kids practice their rodeo events in preparation for each year's rodeo season.

Tita was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jose Ramon, son, Patricio and her brother, Johnnie B. Martinez.  Tita is survived by her husband, Frank “Tony” Trujillo; sons, Mick (Deborah), and Gino; and daughter-in-law, Margie all of Abiquiu.  Those to carry on her legacy are grandsons, Patrick (Shannon), Cody (Ronda), and Tanner (Lenni) all of Abiquiu and granddaughter, Allison (Yosef Morris) of Layton, Utah; great-grandchildren, Jake Trujillo, Casey Trujillo, Stetson Trujillo, Wacey Trujillo, Makena Morris, Teagan Trujillo, Reed Trujillo, Paige Trujillo, Selby Rose Morris and Wyatt Morris.  Also surviving are nephew Pablo “Paul” Martinez of La Mesilla, and special niece, Perla Davis of Abiquiu who was always there for her.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private memorial will be held in the coming days for immediate family only, and Catholic Mass and burial for Theresita “Tita” Trujillo will be held in early summer. Special thanks to the attending staff of Presbyterian Homecare and Hospice of Northern New Mexico. The family of Theresita “Tita” Trujillo has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
