SANTIAGO L. BORREGO , 87, a resident of Santa Cruz passed away peacefully at home on Friday, June 26, 2020 surrounded by his family.  Santiago was preceded in death by his grandson, Joseph Chavez; his parents, Adrian and Elena Borrego; brothers, Gilbert, Bobby, Joe, Ursulo, Johnny, Jerry and Benny; sisters, Juanita, Annie, Connie, and Isabel. Santiago graduated from Santa Cruz High School and shortly after graduation he joined the Military during the Korean War and served four honorable years in the United States Airforce. Santiago attended Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM and later became a teacher at Espanola Valley Junior High School. In 1960, he married Ciria Borrego and raised 5 children. Santiago had a strong faith in God, enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his family. Santiago is survived by his wife, Ciria of 60 years; his daughters, Gina Stump (Mike) of Denver, CO, Agnes Martinez (Gilbert) of Santa Cruz, Patsy Maestas (Roger) of Arroyo Seco, Roberta Borrego of Albuquerque, and Ruth Anne Roybal of Rio Rancho; grandchildren, Carlos Martinez, Vicente Martinez (Chantal), Leticia McKinney (Jillian), Diego Gonzales, Destiny Marinquezada (Eric), Felicia Marquez, Rogelio Maestas (Emma), and Tamara Maestas.  Santiago is survived by his brother, Manuel Borrego (Maggie); sisters, Lourdes Fresquez and Emelda Roybal; six great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends. The family of Santiago Borrego wish to thank everyone for their loving support shown to us during this time.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Santiago was buried at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. The family of Santiago L. Borrego has entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
