Rose Martinez, 73, a resident of Ensenada, New Mexico passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Saturday, July 25, 2020. Rose was born in Cebolla, New Mexico on December 6, 1946 to Rosa and Alfonso “Choncho” Martinez. She was the middle of five children. Rose began her teaching career in the early 1970’s at the Albuquerque Public Schools before she moved to the Chama Valley School District where she continued her teaching career at Escalante High School as the business education teacher, and finally retired in 1998. Following her retirement as a teacher, Rose continued her career in public service where she was employed with Rio Arriba County as the Human Resource Manager. She then took on the role of managing the Chama Valley Chamber of Commerce where she truly enjoyed meeting new people from all over the country. Rose was a proud and loyal Democrat. Throughout her life she was engaged in the Democratic Party in various capacities, whether it was volunteering, organizing, or as a candidate.
Rose clearly played many roles throughout her life. However, the most special role to Rose was that of “Nana” to her beloved grandchildren, Roman, Rayann, and Garrett. Miss Rose will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, her words of advice, and words of encouragement.
