RAYMOND G. GALLEGOS, 83, a resident of El Guache, passed away on Monday, September 23, 2019.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria T. Gallegos; son, Kenneth Gallegos; parents, Luis and Belen Gallegos; sister, Vangie Quintana and Edulia Gallegos. In May of 1953, Raymond was inducted into the United States Army. He took his basic Training in Fort Sill, Oklahoma and then other schooling at Fort Riley, Kansas. In December of 1953 he left from Fort Lewis, Washington, by way of Anchorage, Alaska to Seoul Korea for a tour of duty in Korea. He then did a tour of duty in Japan and then another tour of duty in Korea, serving in Korea north of the 38th parallel. He returned to the United States in August of 1955 by way of Fort Ord, California. He spent about 30 days in Espanola, then he reported to Fort Hood Texas. There he spent three months and was sent to Fort Polk, Louisiana. He was discharged August 31, 1956. Raymond Gaspar Gallegos attended automotive mechanic school in Taos, under the G.I. Bill. He returned to the Espanola Valley and worked as an auto mechanic and owned and managed Ray’s Auto Service in Espanola and later in Arroyo Seco for many years. Raymond Gaspar Gallegos was married to Gloria Trujillo Gallegos. He enjoyed the outdoors, he loved going camping, being out on the farm with his cattle and enjoyed going to church. He is survived by his daughter, Claire Gallegos; adopted son, Raymond M. Gallegos; grandchildren, Justine Torrez, Levi Gallegos, Norraine Torrez, Lorraine Torrez, great-grandchildren, Hugo Velador Jr., Isabel Velador, Marcus and Joshua Gallegos, Brian de la Cruz, Angelo Torrez, and Aldo Martinez, Ariel Martinez; helper on his farm and around the house, Hugo Velador and Beto Nunez; caretaker that he loved her company and everything she did for him, Lillian Villalobos and other caretakers as well. Public visitation will begin on Thursday, October 3, 2019 at Valley Bible Baptist Catholic Church in Arroyo Seco, with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be held at 2:15 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers are Justine Torrez, Natasha Williams, Levi Gallegos, Raymond M. Gallegos, Hugo Velador and Beto Nunez. The family of Raymond G. Gallegos has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
