Monica Lucero

MONICA E. LUCERO , 53, a resident of Hernandez passed away on Thursday, April 8, 2021. She was born in Espanola on June 28, 1967, beloved daughter of Leopoldo and Dolores Trujillo of El Rito, wife of Randy Lucero; mother of Jacob (Gen) and Derrick Lucero; mother-in-law of Elizabeth (Liz) Lucero, mom to Shadow and Baby, her beloved pets. Monica was preceded in death by her father, Leopoldo Trujillo; father-in-law, Herminio Lucero; mother-in-law, Marcella Thomlison; grandparents, Cesario and Salome Trujillo, Filadelphio and Lucia Lucero, and Edward and Alice Martinez; brother, Sisto Trujillo; sister, Sylvia Nevarez; nephew, Toribio (Toby) Trujillo and many other relatives. Monica was a graduate of Mesa Vista High School, earned a bachelor’s degree from the College of Santa Fe.  Monica was employed by the Los Alamos National Laboratory for the last 34 years. She was a loving wife, mother, friend and daughter. She cared for her dad Leo until his death and continued to care for her mother Dolores. Monica is survived by her mother, Dolores Trujillo; husband, Randy Lucero; sons, Jacob and Derrick Lucero; sister, Salomae Trujillo de Torres (Anthony); brothers, Angel (Patricia) and Leo Trujillo (Lillian); brothers-in-law, Mark, Chris, and Jeffrey Lucero and Ellis Nevarez; aunts, Adelicia Vidal, and Joann Lopez (Andres); uncles, Dennis (Carmelita), and John Rocha; compadres, Andrew Cruz (Tish), Ron Lucero (Arlene); godsons, Santana Trujillo, Nathan and Mateo Lucero; nephew, Roy (Teresa); niece, Katrina (Art), Pennie, Stacey (Jeff), Carrie (Lando), Roxanne; close cousins, Cesario Lopez, Valerie Lopez and Elena Rocha, and many other nieces, nephews and cousins. Public visitation will begin on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A second rosary will be recited on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. at the San Juan Nepomuceno Catholic Church in El Rito. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 16, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. also at the San Juan Nepomuceno Catholic Church in El Rito. Burial will be held at a later date. The family of Monica E. Lucero has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
