Monica Alejo (Gomez), 49, a lifelong resident of El Rancho, unexpectedly passed away on Sunday, September 5, 2021. Monica was preceded in death by her brother Daniel Gomez, maternal grandparents Vicente and Rose Sandoval, and paternal grandparents Manuel and Rosina Gomez. Monica is survived by her husband Pedro Alejo, daughter Devona Alejo Cárdenas (Carlos), grandchildren Ethan and Kaiden, son Anthony Alejo, parents Bennie and Veronica Gomez, brother Benito Gomez (Josh) and their children Mallory, Estevan, Bryan, James, and Eric, and sister-in-law Carmelita Gomez and her children Isabella and Antonio. In addition, she leaves behind many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and co-workers whom she loved dearly.

Monica graduated from Pojoaque High School (1990) and received her associate degree in American Sign Language (ASL) from Santa Fe Community College (2000). She has been working as a substitute teacher at Pablo Roybal Elementary School in Pojoaque for several years and loved her job immensely. She always wore her heart on her sleeve and aided anyone in need.

Services are pending at this time and will be announced as soon as they become available. Honorary Pallbearers are Anthony Alejo, Isabella Gomez, Antonio Gomez, Mallory Chapman-Gomez, Bryan Chapman-Gomez, Estevan Vasquez, James Trujillo, and Eric Chapman-Gomez.

One of her favorite songs was “We Belong” by Pat Benatar. In the song, it says, “Close your eyes and try to sleep now, Close your eyes and try to dream, Clear your mind and do your best to try and wash the palette clean. We can’t begin to know it how much we really care. I hear your voice inside me. I see your face everywhere.”
