MARY (Maria) C. SALAZAR, 84, a resident of El Guache, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, June 16, 2022.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years Jose G. (Willie) Salazar and parents, Pedro and Beroniz Garcia, brothers Amado (Luisa), Delfin, Abelino, and Audoro Garcia.  In-laws Juan B. and Raquel Salazar; Mary Padilla (Frank), Lydia Maestas (Jake), Bernie Romero; Aurelia Lopez (Abelino); and Armando Trujillo.  Mary was a woman of faith.  She had a big heart and made an impact on those that she met.  A woman with a sense of fashion and style.  Supported her husband and worked alongside him on the family ranch.  Mary was a great cook and cooked many meals for her family and friends; whether it was a regular family dinner, a mantanza in El Guache, or during a day spent in Chama.  Her and Willie enjoyed going to Las Vegas, NV and the local casinos to play the poker machines.  She is survived by her children William Salazar (Lourdes), James Salazar (companion Elaine Anaya), Debra Rodriguez, Susan Martinez.  Sisters, Teresa Trujillo, Ester Garcia (Pedro); brothers, Rudy Garcia (Emily), Emilio Garcia (Martha), Roy Garcia (Gerri), Johnny Garcia (Lucy); sisters-in-law, Virginia Garcia, Frances Garcia, and Pablita Garcia; grandchildren, Lynette Salazar, Carlos Salazar (companion Christina), Jerry Salazar (Jennifer), Daniel Salazar, Brandon Salazar (Andrea), Jesse Herrera, Desiree Herrera, Vince Martinez (Brianna), Michael Martinez (companion Alex Martinez); 19 great-grandchildren.  Plus, Godchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives, friends and casino friends.

Public visitation will begin on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home, with a rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m.  Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2022, 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Espanola, with burial to follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Serving the family as pallbearers are her loving grandchildren Vince Martinez, Michael Martinez, Brandon Salazar, Carlos Salazar, Jesse Herrera, Jerry Salazar, Lynette Salazar, and Enrique Salazar.
