Mary Martinez

December 27, 1939 — February 20, 2021

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of MARY EVA MARTINEZ , a lifetime resident of Los Ojos. Mary Eva was born on December 27, 1939 to Ubaldo and Bernice Trujillo. Mary Eva entered Heavens gates peacefully, on February 20, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.

Mary Eva was preceded in death by her parents, Ubaldo and Bernice Trujillo; her grandparents, Jose Marcos and Manuelita Trujillo; brothers, Marcos Trujillo, Bucky (Orlando Sabino Trujillo); sister, Maria Trujillo, and granddaughter, Jamay Marie Sanchez.

Mary Eva was born and raised in the small town of Los Ojos, on a cold snowy day.  She was the oldest of eight children, whom she helped her mother care for after her father’s passing.  Mary Eva attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Los Ojos from kindergarten through eighth grade.  She attended school at Santa Fe Catholic School for the duration of her education. Mary Eva was extremely hardworking and dedicated to every job she held.  She especially loved working with the children as a teacher’s aide at Tierra Amarilla Elementary where the children loved to see her enthusiastic glow. Mary Eva followed in the footsteps of her grandfather and mother by working for the US Postal Service and between the three generations they ran the Los Ojos post office for over one hundred years.  Mary Eva went on to retire as PTF Clerk after approximately 33 years.  Mary Eva could not stay put after retirement and moved on to work at the US Forestry in Canjilon. She made many lifetime friendships while working there.

Mary Eva found much joy in creating memories with her loved ones, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She formed many close bonds through her wit, compassion, and tenacity.  Her creative mind allowed her to enjoy hobbies such as cross words and crocheting, while enjoying the dramatics of daytime soaps operas. You could find her enjoying the finer things in life, such as her beloved Pepsi and oatmeal cookies.  She always had a piece of gum to share with you when asked.  During her youth Mary Eva enjoyed going to dances and dancing the night away.  She loved taking long scenic rides while listening to the sounds of Northern New Mexico Spanish music with her honey Leonard. Leonard and Mary Eva were lifetime partners in crime. They were always cruising around in the Corvette or on Leonard’s motorcycle. Mary Eva was known as a classy lady who was always dressed to impress.  Ms. “Fancy Nancy.”  You would never find Mary Eva with her hair out of place, or without her nails painted her famous brown.  She was always the stylish granny walking around with her Wranglers, Roper boots, and the most extravagant earrings. Mary was always ready for the catwalk. Many would describe her as beautiful, bold, and one of a kind.

Mary Eva was survived by her lifetime partner, Leonard Gonzales; her children, Jerome Martinez, Patrick (Geraldine) Trujillo, Melissa Martinez (James Sanchez), Marcella Trujillo (Carlos Valdez); her beloved grandchildren, Malerie Trujillo (Thomas), JR Sanchez (Alysia) Candace Trujillo, Colton Trujillo, Marcus Trujillo, Shoshanah (Matthew) Archuleta, Reyes (Jennifer) Valdez and Matthew Berry; great-grandchildren, Angel, JJ, Leroy, Ava, DeAngelo, Owen, Santiago, Madison, Landon, Christiano and baby Valdez; her siblings, Sara (Alfred) Vialpando, Emma Rose Valdez, Albert (Bernadette) Trujillo and Alfred Trujillo, as well as many nieces and nephews.
