Maria Martinez

MARIA ROSARIO MARTINEZ, 69 a resident of Chimayo, passed away on Friday, May 22, 2020 of a long illness. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tomas E. Martinez; beloved son, Jimmy D. Martinez; step-children, Tommy, Rosa, Albert and Jimmy P. Martinez; son-in-law, Halbert Martinez. Maria was a loving and giving woman. She had a big heart and it was shown when she welcomed everyone to her home. She never closed her doors to anyone that needed help. Before her illness she enjoyed spending time with her family making tamales, tortillas and red chili stew. She will always hold a special place in our hearts. Mrs. Martinez is survived by her children, Jose Martinez (Sofia), Placedes Martinez, Elena Martinez (Jesse), Annie Archuleta (Eddie), Mary Lou Martinez; daughter-in-law, Anna Martinez; step-children, Rayitos Trujillo (Joe), Lupe Sotelo, Johnny Martinez (Dolores), Jeffrey Martinez (Elaine), Geraldine Martinez (Max); 32 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; cousins, Juan and Rosita Ortiz and Rafael and Ramon; dear friend, Judy Trujillo;  and numerous other relatives and friends. Public Visitation will begin on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a wake service to follow at 7:00 p.m. Memorial mass will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo, with burial to follow at Nuestra Senora de Dolores Catholic Cemetery. Due to Covid 19 Restrictions only 75 people will be allowed into the Funeral Home and 100 people will be allowed in the Church every one must wear a mask to enter both facilities. Serving the family as pallbearers will be her grandsons, in memory of Isaac, Jermaine, Larry, Maximino, Edward, Jared, Samuel, Jimmy E. and Robert (Bito). Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters, Monica, Gina, Vangie, Sapphire, Chassidi, Christian, Annjenesse, Shannon and Gabby.
