MARGARITA A. SALAZAR, 98, a resident of Chamita, passed away of a short illness on Sunday, February 9, 2020. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reymundo Salazar; brothers, Tomas Archuleta, Julian Archuleta, Emilio Archuleta, Juan Archuleta; sisters, Lugarda Maestas, Polly Barnhart; grandchildren, Joseph Salazar, Alicia Valdez and Melanie Guillen. Margarita lived a long life of service to her family and her community. She took pride in keeping up her home and garden. Margarita was an amazing cook. Any one that knew her would say she was the most loving, caring and compassionate woman. She will be dearly missed by all her loving, family, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and friends. Margarita is survived by her son, Alex Salazar and wife, Elevinia of Espanola; daughters, Emily Brower, Pita Carattini, Evangeline Valdez and companion Joe; all of Albuquerque and Elaine Luna and husband David of Las Vegas, NM; sister, Juanita Casados of Rio Rancho; granddaughters, Anita Salazar of Santa Fe, Deborah Garcia of Velarde, Alysse Salas of Espanola, Amanda Luna of Las Vegas, NM, grandsons, Rick Garcia of Velarde, Steven Garcia of Scottsdale AZ, Ivan Valdez and wife Kay of Espanola, Jeremy Valdez and wife Kelly of Los Angeles, CA, Tomas Valdez of Albuquerque, Joel Luna of Las Vegas, Matthew Luna of Las Vegas; great-grandsons, Joseph Salazar Jr. and companion, Fay of Espanola, Estevan Archuleta of Albuquerque, Aaron Lopez of Albuquerque, Gabriel Garcia and wife Cassandra of Albuquerque, Vince Valdez of Espanola, Griffin Valdez of Los Angeles; great-granddaughters, Andrea Salazar and husband Jacob of Albuquerque, Ana Maria Archuleta and companion Shawn of Albuquerque, Emilee Garcia of Las Vegas, great-great-grandchildren, Antonio Salazar of Espanola, Leandro Salazar, of Espanola, Josiah Salazar of Cuba, NM, Joselyn Salazar of Espanola, Mia Martinez of Espanola, Sarah Elizabeth Garcia of Albuquerque, and numerous other relatives and friends. A rosary will be recited on Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be held at 2:15 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers are Joseph Salazar Jr., Steven Garcia, Ivan Valdez, Jeremy Valdez, Tomas Valdez, and Matthew Luna, honorary pallbearers names are, Rick Garcia, Joel Luna, Leroy Bustos, and Vince Guillen.
