Obituary

MANUEL J. SERNA, 80, a resident of Albuquerque, formerly of Española, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacobo and Juliet Serna; daughter, Nancy Serna-Sanchez; siblings, Jackie Serna, Frank Serna, Theresa Pleasant and great-granddaughter, Scarlett Martinez. He enlisted in the Navy in August of 1958, during his time in the military he was stationed in Japan for a period of time and loved to share stories of his service with his family. Manuel was well known Insurance Agent in Northern New Mexico. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Manuel enjoyed the outdoors and would spend his free days fishing in various lakes and streams throughout New Mexico. Nothing compared to the time he enjoyed spending with his family, they were his pride and joy but most of all he loved and adored his beautiful wife, Alice. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Mr. Serna is survived by his wife of 57 years, Alice Serna; children, Pamela Garcia (Teodoro) and Veronica Serna; grandchildren, Matthew, Bennie and Isaiah Chavez, Isaac Garcia, Megan Baca, Jacob Garcia, Alyssa Ellison, Miquella Martinez, Cailee, Angelique and Isabella Sanchez; 12 great-grandchildren and 2 on the way and numerous other relatives and friends. Private services will be held. Serving the family as pallbearers will be, Matthew, Isaiah and Bennie Chavez, Isaac and Jacob Garcia and Isaiah Ellison. Honorary pallbearers named are, Darion Chavez, Miguel Chavez, Ambrose Martinez and Benjamin Garcia. The family would like to thank the nurses at the Princeton Place Assisted Living facility for the great care they provided for Manuel. The family of Manuel J. Serna has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
