Lucille Gomez

d. June 1, 2021

Lucille T. Gomez, 90, a resident of Lower San Pedro Road, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 after a brief illness.  She was born on March 31, 1931 in Taos, New Mexico and was a long time kindergarten teacher for the Espanola Public Schools.  Lucille received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education from Dubuque University in Dubuque, Iowa, and her Master of Arts degree from New Mexico Highlands University.  She will be remembered for her kindness, thoughtfulness and musical talent by the many lives she touched throughout the years.

Her love for music continued throughout her life and was exemplified by her playing of both the piano and organ as the organist at the Santa Cruz United Methodist Church for many years.  Lucille was a very religious person and her knowledge and familiarity of the bible and various bible stories was impressive.  As such, she often referenced the same bible she received as a child which was her constant companion.  She and her husband Pedro, a retired school administrator enjoyed traveling and visited many locations around the world including Central America, the Philippines, Europe, China and Russia.  Her love of crossword puzzles, warm demeanor and infectious smile will be greatly missed.

Lucille is survived by her husband of  65 years, Pedro of the family home and daughter Joanna and son Peter who both reside in Denver, Colorado.  Special recognition is extended to caregiver, Maria Herrera who lovingly cared for Lucille and to the staff of Ambercare Home Hospice for their tremendous care and support during her illness.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at the Santa Cruz United Methodist Church.  Burial will take place at a later date at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Espanola Valley Humane Society or the American Lung Association.
