Louella Medina

d. November 18, 2021

Louella B. Medina, 63, a resident of La Villita, NM passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 18, 2021 with her family at her side.  She was preceded in death by her Mother Teresita D. Medina; Grandparents, Luis and Rebecca Diaz, Antonio and Silviana Medina; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and a close and dear friend, Carol Martinez.

Family and friends meant the world to Louella as she would rarely miss an event because the experiences she shared with each of them brought her much joy.  Favorite activities were to gaze at the beauty of nature; and watching the birds feeding and drinking within view from the family’s sunroom.  Louella enjoyed cooking and baking, working with her hands, cultivating the soil when planting her seasonal flowers and planting a small vegetable garden with her father.  Her Catholic faith was deep-rooted, helping her through life’s journey.

Louella graduated from Espanola High School in 1975 (last of the Hornets) and worked for the State of New Mexico and Los Alamos National Lab until her retirement.  Louella helped establish the Alcalde Neighborhood Watch Program, helped organize community clean-up days, provided time and effort to her church, helped those less fortunate with monetary and material donations, and provided round-the-clock care for her father.  Honoring Louella can be done simply by smiling at a passing stranger on the street or lending a helping hand selflessly.  “Keep your loved ones close and always remember to tell them you love them”, she would say.

Louella is survived by her father, Antonio “Ross” Medina; sister, Marcie; brother, Walter (Mary); nieces Erlinda Gonzales (Paul) and Maria Medina; her Tia Lorraine and extended family and friends.

A rosary will take place on Monday, December 13, 2021 at 10:30 am followed by the Mass of the Christian Burial at 11:00 am at the San Juan de Bautista Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh. Burial will follow at the La Villita Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers are Dolores Marquez, Beverly Gallegos, Jeannie Abeyta, Rachel Sanchez, Sally Nicholson, Ramona Sanchez and her God Son Nicholas Chacon.

In lieu of flowers, if you wish, you may make a contribution to UNM Children’s Hospital, St. Jude’s Hospital, or to the San Juan Bautista Parish.
