Leroy Romero

On October 13th 2019 God called Leroy E. Romero to His loving arms. Leroy was born on May 22, 1956, to Prescilla y Antonio Romero from Las Truchas. He was preceded in death by his dad, Antonio Romero; grandparents, Cresenciano y Rosanna Romero, Victor y Bernice Romero de Las Truchas y Cordova. He is survived by his mother, Prescilla Romero; sons, Fabian and wife Valerie Romero and Leroy Romero, Jr. and companion Cruz; daughters, Shayla Romero and companion Felix, Tamera Martinez and her children, Ricky (who also was like a son), Eric and Erica; grandchildren, Fabian, Isaac, Kaitlyn and Jerome Romero, Martin and Jordan Gracia, and Toni Rodriguez; mother of his sons, Merlin Romero; brothers and sisters, Bobby and Peggy Romero, Emerson and Rene Romero, Arthur and Jinky Romero, Eva and Remijo Pacheco, Rudy and Arlene Romero, Marie and David Montgomery and Andrew Romero and numerous nieces and nephews. I Corinthians 13 says that the Greatest of all is Love; Leroy loved to serve; he joined the Peace Corp at 17 years of age; served 20 years in the National Guard, Army rank of SSG 361 Det 1. Leroy was one of the first respondents at the 1980 State Penitentiary in Santa Fe, where he also received a metal for his outstanding service in the 1980 Penitentiary riot. Leroy was a loving caring and giving man, with a huge heart. He was a great mechanic and loved cars. Leroy was such a generous person; that if you asked him for help, he would drop what he was doing to lend a helping hand. Leroy was injured back when he was serving in the National Guard thus suffered for most of his adult life. But his pain was kept to himself and continued to serve to the best of his God given talents and knowledge. We will miss this man that God created to be a part of our family. We LOVE you and may you rest in peace. Vaya con Dios. Public visitation will begin on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial to follow at 12:45 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Fabian, Isaac, Kaitlyn, Jerome, Martin, Jordan, Emerson Romero and Josh Cohen. Honorary pallbearers are; Rudy Romero, Kenny Romero, Ricky Martinez, Jesse Martinez, Jacob Torres and Toni Rodriguez. The family of Leroy E. Romero has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
