Keesuck Thomas

d. May 1, 2020

On May 1, 2020, the soul of Keesuck Waupi Wompan “Heavenly Wind of Day” Thomas, 33, a member of the Narragansett Indian Tribe of Rhode Island, departed to the spirit world after a long battle with addiction.  There she is joined in spirit with her previously deceased daughter, Niah Green, and her maternal grandmother and paternal grandparents.

Keese was an energetic child with a golden smile and glistening eyes.  She loved food, in fact her first word was “eat.” She loved sports from a very young age, playing Little League and then, at the Santa Fe Indian School where she graduated in 2004, playing softball, volleyball, amateur boxing, track and her favorite, basketball.  She was a good student and exceptional athlete and made friends easily wherever she went.  She spent some time working in healthcare as a Certified Nurse Aide, took an EMT course, and most recently worked at Del Taco.  She was most proud of and deeply loved her five children.

Left on earth with aching hearts are Keesuck’s sons she called her Four Aces: Papone Thomas, Amin, Eli and Ishmael “Noki” Green, along with their fathers Channon Johnson of Rhode Island and Ishmael Green of Albuquerque; parents John (Coach Thomas) N Thomas Jr. and Karen Thacker Sowanick Thomas; sisters Sonia, Dyani (Quantis Hawkins) and Sepoese; niece that was like a sister to her, RaiAnne Thomas, brothers Mario and John III; maternal grandfathers and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews from shore to shore.

A private viewing will be arranged.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Keesuck’s memory to Santa Fe Indian School Athletic Program, 1501 Cerrillos Rd, Santa Fe, NM 87505.

The family of Keesuck Waupi Wompan Thomas has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
