Kathy Naomi Gurule Taylor, 59, was born on February 28,1960. A longtime resident of Beggs, Oklahoma, and formerly of Ojo Caliente, Kathy passed away on December 29, 2019 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family in her last moments.

Kathy was preceded in death by her father Sambrano (Sammie) Gurule, her paternal grandparents; Jose Gurule and Consuelo Valdez Gurule, maternal grandparents: Armando Trujillo and Maria Chacon Trujillo, a very special aunt; Loyda Gurule Trujillo, nephew Sammy James Gurule, as well as many aunts, uncles, and close relatives.

Kathy is survived by her husband; Ed Spears, her two daughters; Serena Taylor and Kendra Taylor, and the father of her children; Mike Taylor, grandchildren; Skyler and Kaytie whom she raised as her own, and grandchildren; Remy, Rori and Ryli, of Oklahoma. She is also survived by her mother; Loyda Trujillo Gurule of Ojo Caliente, New Mexico, siblings; Melvin Gurule (Claudia) of Standing Rock, New Mexico, Edwina Fisher (Howard) of Bristow, Oklahoma, Edwin Gurule (Phyllis) of Tres Piedras, New Mexico and Rebecca Gurule-Lovato (Nick) of Ojo Caliente, New Mexico. As well as nieces and nephews; Edwin Fisher, Dena Fisher, Consuelo Sowers, Sara Gurule, Victoria Lovato, Nicholas Lovato and Shania Gurule.

Kathy was a 1978 graduate of Mesa Vista High School. Upon graduation, Kathy worked at the Ojo Caliente Craftsmen, the Mesa Vista School District, and the Colomex/Petrolane company in Ojo Caliente. She was also active with the Ojo Caliente Volunteer Fire Department. She later attended New Mexico State University and moved to Oklahoma to become an EMT for the Okmulgee County ambulance until her retirement.

Kathy loved spending her time with her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Her distinct laugh was evident whenever she was around. Her last wish was to enjoy a beach with her grandchildren. Kathy was able to make that dream a reality in December of this year by enjoying a cruise with her family to Cozumel, Mexico.

Kathy loved her Maranatha Seventh Day Adventist Church where she loved to cook for potlucks. Kathy was an amazing cook and there were always plenty of left overs.

Kathy also loved to listen to old Country Gospel music and was a very creative person. Her talents were many and everyone around her benefitted from them. Kathy was a very giving person and brought smiles to anyone she came in contact with.

Kathy will live in our hearts, forever, and will be dearly missed until we see her once again. Public Visitation will begin on Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a Devotional Service to follow at 6:00 p.m. Burial will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in Tres Piedres. A meal to follow burial at the Mesa Vista School Cafeteria. Serving the family as pallbearers are Edwin Fisher, Dena Fisher, Consuelo Sowers, Victoria Lovato, Sara Gurule and Nicholas Lovato. honorary pallbearers named are Skyler Taylor, Kaytie Taylor, Remi Clemens, Rory Clemens, Ryli Romero and Shania Gurule. The family of Kathy Naomi Gurule Taylor have entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley. 505-747-7477
