Joe Martinez Sr.

November 5, 1934 — June 20, 2022

A loving and dedicated husband, father, brother grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great- grandfather and friend. Joe Martinez Sr. was born to Florencio Martinez and Edonila Martinez on November 5, 1934 in Penasco, NM.   He was one of 9 children; Mary, Bertha, Angie, Agnes, Rosie, Connie, Nancy, David and Tina.  He married his high school sweetheart, Alicia Martinez in December 1955.  Joined the Army in 1955 and was blessed with a family of 4 children, who are now grown with spouses of their own; Ned (Dolores), MaryAnn, Joe Jr. (Geraldine) and Eileen (Frank).

Joe was a good provider for his family and was a jack of all trades.  After the Army, he worked for the Depot in Utah, the NM State Penitentiary, Taos Sheriff, a mechanic for the Ford Company in Espanola, a diesel mechanic for Questa Moly Corp., Park Manager for the Belen State Park and Recreation, then he finally retired.

Joe, a dedicated family man always put his family first.  He loved his grandchildren; Chrystal, Tania, Lorrie, Ned, Cassie, Craig, Brandon, Jonathan, Christopher and Justin and all his great and great-great grand-children, and always had his house full.  He did everything from take them to school, Dr. appointments, practices and games to wiping their tears.

He was a faithful lifelong Catholic and a member of the San Antonio De Padua Church in Penasco, NM.  He was a founding member of the Knights of Columbus, Booster Club member, Penasco School Board member and on the Board for the Penasco Water Association.

Years after the passing of his wife, Alicia, he found companionship with Irene Plaza.  Joe was loved by all of us and will be dearly missed.
