Joe Marquez

d. November 26, 2021

Joe Palomino Marquez passed to his eternal rest on Friday, November 26, 2021, at his home in Espanola, New Mexico. Joe was born in Presidio, Texas, on October 4, 1934, to Jesus Marquez and Petra Palomino Marquez. The family moved to Artesia, New Mexico, in 1948. There he met and married his wife of 65 years, Belen Granado Marquez. Joe moved his family to the Espanola valley in 1965 and launched his company, Marquez & Son Concrete Finishing. He and his son, David, worked primarily in Los Alamos and White Rock until 2013. Joe was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend. He is loved and remembered for his good nature, special humor, kindness, generosity, and love of horses and watermelon. He woke up singing or whistling and ended the day the same way. Joe and Belen were quite a couple on the dance floor and enjoyed going to weekend dances with friends in their younger years. The best times for Joe were when his family was together--it filled him with joy. He often said, “I have a good family and I’ve had a good life.” Surviving Joe are his wife Belen, children Diana (Henry) Magallanez, David Marquez, and Dora Marquez; grandchildren Randi Marquez, Marisa Magallanez, Adrianne (Jose) Castillo, Anton Magallanez, Kayla Marquez-Cimino, and Ian Lujan; four great-grandchildren, Corrine, Jose, Jason and Maxson, and many nieces and nephews who also love and will remember Joe. His surviving siblings are Maria Rubio (Artesia), Rosa Aguilar (Artesia), Lupe (Esperanza) Marquez (Artesia), Grace (Joe) Lopez (Ruidoso), and Henry (Mary) Marquez (Cortez, CO), and his sister[1]in-law Maggie (Dennis) Montoya. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Petra, and siblings, Jesus Marquez Jr., Ramon Oscar Marquez, Agripina Leyba and other beloved family members. Joe’s family is grateful for his long life. A heartfelt thanks to his wife, son and granddaughter, Randi, for taking such good care of him at home and making him so comfortable on his journey to his heavenly home. Pallbearers are Joe’s grandsons, Anton Magallanez and Ian Lujan; honorary pallbearers, his granddaughters, Randi Marquez, Marisa Magallanez, Adrianne Castillo and Kayla Marquez[1]Cimino.
