Joe Martinez

JOE GABRIEL MARTINEZ , 86, a resident of Española passed away on Monday, July 6, 2020 surrounded by his loving family.  Joe enjoyed traveling with his wife and family to Las Vegas, Nevada, Pagosa Springs, and Durango, Colorado.  He also liked watching his TV Spanish channels and other favorite shows and movies.  Joe retired from LANL (Zia) in Los Alamos after 32 years.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Berlinda Martinez; son, Vernon J. Martinez; granddaughter, Heather Martinez; parents, Lucas and Margarita Martinez; brother, Ruben Martinez (Cruzita); sister, Eufelia Martinez (Manuel), Becky Silva, and Audelia Martinez; son-in-law, Matthew Vigil; parents-in-law, Juan and Lugarda Miera; brothers-in-law, Steve and Prescilano Miera; sisters-in-law, Annabelle and JoAnn Miera; nieces raised as his own, April Miera and Joyce Fresquez.  Joe is survived by his children, David Martinez, Debbie Dixon and husband Martin, Myra Vigil, Michael Martinez (Evelyn); granddaughters he raised, Ashley Martinez (Jose) and Alicia Garcia (Mel); brother, Arturo Martinez (Dolores); sisters, Julia Berry (Louis), and Sylvia Roybal (Orlando); sisters-in law, Lourdes Apodaca (Tom), Pablita Esquibel (Horace); grandchildren, David Martinez Jr. and Amber Vigil (Jerad); great-grandchildren, David III, Jade, Estrella, Valerie, and Demetrios Jr., Jason, Lorenzo, Marcos, Jeremiah, JoJo, and Casandra; great-great-grandchildren, David III Brooks and Kylie. A rosary will be recited on Thursday, July 16, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Española with a Mass of Christian burial to follow at 1:00 p.m. Burial to follow at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery with his grandchildren and nephews taking Joe G. to his final rest, David Martinez Jr., Lorenzo and Jason Gasca, Tony Martinez, Leroy Fresquez Jr., Jerad Olivas and Jose Atencio. The family of Joe Gabriel Martinez has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
