Helen G. Salazar, 82, a resident of El Guache, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 12, 2020.  Born to Pedro and Isabel Padilla on September 6, 1937, she was one of 12 children.

Helen was preceded in death by her loving husband, Napoleon Salazar on April 6, 2017. Her parents, Pedro and Isabel Padilla; brothers, Manuel (Juanita), Frank (Mary), Louis (Cenovia), Jose (Lousita), Evaristo (Modesta), Gary (Vickie); sister, Adella Montoya; sister-in-law, Sally Padilla; and brothers-in-law, Riley Edmunds and William (Bill) Schutz. Her father and mother-in-law, Joe I. and Ramoncita Salazar; brothers-in-law Leroy Salazar, Lee Padilla, Roy Romero and sisters-in-law Mary (Benny) Serrano, Marylou Salazar and Caroline Salazar.

Helen is survived by her children, Esther (Joe) Martinez, Johnny (Josefina) Salazar, Gerald (Eunice) Salazar, Ellena (Leon) Martinez, Fernando and Debbie Salazar.  And her grandchildren who she raised: Janae, Jared and Isabella Salazar.

Grandchildren, Joe Jr., Everett (Eliza), and Daniel Martinez, Geraldine (Lawrence) Ortiz, Maricela (William) and Micaela Salazar, Julian (Melinda) Salazar, Amberly (Steven) Vandenbusch, Morgan and Kayla Salazar, Brandon Maestas, Adam and Joshua Martinez; Great-grandchildren, Ayesha (Kenny), Patricia, Martin, Jeremiah, Joseph, Caleb, Neveah, Peyton and Analise;  Great-great grandchildren, Kayden and Kaylie.

Helen is survived by her brother, Pete Padilla and sisters, Edna Schutz, Ernestine Edmunds and Lita (Belarmino) Martinez, brother-in-law Salomon Montoya.

She is also survived by her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law,  Eloy Salazar, Julia (Archie) Jaramillo, Joe I. Jr (Isabel), Betty Padilla, Alex (Mable) Salazar, Ron Raffensbarger, Teresa Romero, Raymond (Therese), Lucy (Loren) Abercrombie, Danny (Claudine), Annette (Kevin) Joseph, and Judy (Leroy) Martinez.

Serving as pallbearers are Joe E. Jr., Everett, Daniel, Julian, Brandon, Adam, Joshua, Jared, Martin, Jeremiah, Joseph and Caleb.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Father Dominic Pearson for praying and blessing Helen before her passing.  Thank you AmberCare Hospice and a very special Thank You to Helen’s family and friends for your prayers and support.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2020 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory.  Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 22, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Santa Cruz with a burial to follow at 1:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Espanola. Due to COVID-19 restrictions services are restricted to 80 people. Masks must be worn.
