Genoveva Vigil

d. April 7, 2021

GENOVEVA P. VIGIL , 92, a resident of Espanola and formerly of Chimayo, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.  Genoveva was the proud matriarch of a large, close-knit family and her children and grandchildren are what brought her the greatest joy.  She loved to spend time with all of them as she enjoyed doing her favorite things such as word search puzzles and having competitions on who finished the fastest, which she won every time, or watching novelas and gameshows.  Family Feud was her favorite because she sure loved Steve Harvey.  She especially looked forward to special occasions like her birthday or Mother’s Day and always requested on those special days that the whole family take her out to eat at her favorite restaurant, the Golden Corral and then to all the casinos.  But the most special of times were just being in her home sitting at the table together eating her “papas y pan" as we listened to the stories of her younger years or as she shared her words of love, faith, wisdom, and guidance.  She will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved her.  Just as she was the most beautiful Momma and Grandma to us here on Earth, she is now our most beautiful guardian angel in Heaven.

Genoveva was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Luisita Pacheco; spouse, Trinidad Vigil; infant sons, Jose, Manuel, and Gregorio Vigil; siblings, Canuto Pacheco (Eulalia) and Tila Vigil (Florian).  She is survived by her children, Isabel Vigil, Prescilla Garduno, Martha Deaguero (David), Margie Sanchez (Daniel), Lisa Vigil, Joe Vigil (Faith) and Manuel Vigil (Angela); grandson whom she raised as her son, Jimmy Lee Vigil; grandchildren, Joylyn, Joseph, Jesse, Nadine (Fabian), Melissa (Miguel), Jimmy, James, Davy, Nicole (Louis), Jerome (Robyn), Jessica (Jarren), Angel, Joshua, Danita, and Alisha; great-grandchildren, Jesse Jr. (Gabby), Shontelle, AJ, Jordan, Nevaeh, Miguel Jr., Gabriel, Zachary, Riley, Baby Aiden, D'Anna, Donald, Daly, Cheyenne, and Maleni; great-great-grandchild, Abel; sisters, Cidelia Lopez and Bernie Martinez; close family members, Joaquin Garduno and Peggy Vigil; many loving nieces, nephews, and friends as well as her beloved dog, Chiquita.

The Vigil family would like to thank Trish, Sharon, Janice, Diane, Rose, and all the staff of Ambercare for the care and compassion you provided to our mother/grandmother. Thank you, Father John Plans, for visiting with and praying for her and thank you Deb Compton for praying the rosary.  We would also like to thank all our family, friends, and neighbors who have reached out to us and shown us so much love during this most difficult time.  May God bless you all.

A rosary will be recited on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the Holy Cross Church in Santa Cruz with a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Burial immediately to follow at the Lighthouse Cemetery in Chimayo. Genoveva will be carried to her final resting place by pallbearers: Jesse, Jimmy, James, and Joshua Vigil, Davy and Jerome Deaguero, AJ and Jarren Cordova, Fabian Moya, Louis Martinez, and Miguel Caro.  Honorary pallbearers will be:  Joylyn, Joseph, Nadine, Melissa, Nicole, Jessica, Angel, Robyn, Jesse Jr., Shontelle, Jordan, Nevaeh, Miguel Jr., Gabriel, Zachary, Riley, Baby Aiden, Abel, Danita, Alisha, D'Anna, Donald, Daly, Cheyenne, and Maleni. The family of Genoveva P. Vigil has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
