ESTIVAN “TOMMY” MAES, 66, a lifelong resident of Bernalillo, born and raised in Canjilon, NM to Juanito and Celestina Maes, passed away at home on Wednesday, May 20, 2020 surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his father, Juanito Maes, mother Celestina Martinez Maes; brother, Adolfo Maes, sister, Margaret Alvarez; and his mother-in-law Antonia Griego. His passion was ranching and outdoors. Tommy was a former New Mexico State Police Officer and retired as a safety and security supervisor for ABF freight systems of 34 years. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marie Maes, children, Juan Maes (Rebecca), Thomas Maes (Paulette), Ana Chavez (Andrew), and Angelique Lucero (Adrian); 6 grandsons, 4 granddaughters; 4 brothers and 10 sisters. A rosary will be recited on Friday, May 29, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. Due to Covid -19 only 75 people are allowed in the Funeral Home and everyone must wear a mask. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 30, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the San Juan Nepomuceno Catholic Church in Canjilon, with a burial to follow at the Canjilon Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers are Anthony Maes, Shawn Maes, Adrian Lucero, Cheyenne Maes, Anyka Maes and Michael Maes, honorary pallbearers named are Fermin Maes Sr., Juanito (Jr) Maes, Joseph Maes, Joe Griego, Vince Griego, Marcus Chavez, Amberly Chavez, Ryan Maes and Abrielle Lucero.
