Emily Maestas

Emily E. Maestas, 81, was called to be with the Lord on Friday, September 3, 2021.  She passed away peacefully at home with loved ones by her side.  Emily was born on December 28, 1939 in Espanola, New Mexico to Eddie and Jessie Martinez. She was proceeded in death by both her parents, her husband Arthur Maestas, her brother Robert Martinez, and her granddaughters Samantha and Nicole Maestas.  She leaves behind her beloved family.  Emily is survived by her brother Mike, sons Art (Shelly), Don (Renee), Chris (Annabelle), Derek (Corrina), Charles, Phil (Javier), Steve (Derrick), 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and many other special nephews, cousins and friends. Emily dearly loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; she was so proud of her family and she cherished the times they all came together to celebrate. You may have known Emily from her work at La Cocina, which she helped her mother open in 1970.  She took over the business, along with her son Steve, in 1990 after her mother retired. She continued to work there until her retirement in 2008. The business, which she was so proud of continues to flourish under the guidance of her sons Phil and Javier. She also enjoyed participating in the Fiestas where she served as chair of the Queens Court for many years. Special thanks to her caretakers who cared for her with love and compassion.

Public visitation will be held on Sunday, September 12, 2021 at 4:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with memorial service to follow at 5:00 p.m. Memorial mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 13, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Church in Santa Cruz with a burial to take place at a later date.  The family of Emily E.
