Elipio “Coach” Garcia Jr., 52, a resident of Espanola was called home on Friday, December 31,2021. Elipio was preceded in death by his parents, Elipio Sr. and Antonia Garcia; infant sister, Judith Garcia; grandparents, Emiliano and Angelica Aragon, Isabel and Genoveva Garcia; father-in-law, Clyde Herrera; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.

Elipio grew up in Canones, New Mexico with his loving parents and six sisters. Elipio was a 1987 Graduate of Espanola Valley High, where he went on to be a Football coach for many years. He graduated from Northern New Mexico Community College with an associates degree in general education. Elipio then went on to become teacher and coach at Victory Christian Academy from 1992 up until his passing. He was also the Men's Ministry Leader at Victory Faith Church for many years. Elipio was a teacher at Victory Faith Christian Academy, A funeral ambassador at DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory where he served hundreds of families over the years and an employee at MSTS in Los Alamos.

Elipio had a heart of pure Gold, he had a heart for his students, the love he had for them was never ending and deeper than any ocean on earth, each one of his students knew it. Elipio’s love for God was eternal, the faith Elipio had was extraordinary, never shying away from his faith, even during his toughest and scariest times. He was an amazing person who was always willing to do what he could to help anyone in need. Elipio did so much for so many people, serving at DeVargas Funeral Home he took great pride and had so much compassion in taking anyone's loved one into his care. The love Elipio had for his family was amazing. His children and wife were his world. He woke up every day and worked three jobs to provide for them, never uttering a complaint. He taught his children about God, Faith, and Integrity. These were always the focal points of the Garcia household.

Elipio is survived by his wife of 26 years Janel Garcia; Children, Elipio Isaiah “Pete” (Miranda), Jeremiah Clyde “Jerry”, and LillyAnne Jenay Garcia; siblings, Brenda Salazar, Geneva Miera (Pastor JD), Antonette Villareal (Doyle), Edith Madrid (Harold), Angela Cata-Baca (Stephen), and Neomi Garcia-Madrid (Mark); 11 nieces and nephews, 6 great-nieces and nephews and one on the way. 5 god children; mother-in-law, Jane Herrera; brothers-in-law, Clarence Herrera (JulieAnne), Abe Herrera; and many uncles, aunts, cousins, and close friends whom Elipio loved dearly.

Elipio has left a void in our hearts, he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. This is not goodbye its only see you later.


Public visitation will begin on Friday, January 7, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. at Victory Faith Church, with a devotional service to follow at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at Victory Faith Church, with a burial to follow at Loma Vista Cemetery in Alcalde. Serving the family as pallbearers will be Stephan Baca, Clarence Herrera, Abe Herrera, Martin Romero, Doyle Villareal, and Steve Miera, honorary pallbearers named are all his past and present students, players, and his past and present work family. The family of Elipio “Coach” Garcia Jr. has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley. 505-747-7477
