Edumenia F. Martinez, 95, a lifelong resident of Peñasco, New Mexico passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 28, 2021.  She was born August 5, 1926, in Peñasco.  She was preceded in death by her husband Jose I. Martinez; parents Policarpio and Juanita Fresquez; sisters Rose Trujillo, Mary Cruz, Aurora Esquibel; brothers Solomon Fresquez, Samuel Fresquez, Manuel Fresquez, and Anselmo Fresquez; Great Grandson Lorencito Najar.  As a young girl Edumenia attended school in Peñasco and graduated from Peñasco High School in 1944. After graduation Edumenia worked at the Los Alamos National Laboratory.  In 1952 she married the love of her life, Jose I. Martinez.  Edumenia accompanied Jose as he traveled working at several mines throughout the southwest.  After a few years they returned to their home in Peñasco.  Edumenia went on to work at the Peñasco Independent schools until her retirement.  Edumenia found love and fulfillment working with the students and staff in the Peñasco schools.  Edumenia’s impact on the lives of several of the young students of the district will live on.  Edumenia had several life projects that enriched the lives of those around her.  She enjoyed walking, cooking, sewing; but most of all, sharing her love with her family and friends.  Edumenia and Jose were avid travelers.  They enjoyed and shared the blessing of traveling the world, visiting cities in Europe, French Polynesia, South America, and several others. She never forgot to thank God for the blessings that allowed her to share the beauty with her husband and her children.  Edumenia is survived by her children Raffie Martinez and her husband Eric, Amanda Martinez, and her husband Gilbert, Enos Martinez and his wife Darlene, and Elmer Martinez and his wife Easther.  In addition, she is survived by her loving grandchildren, Joey Chavez, Renee Bradley, Jolene Martinez, Leroy Fresquez Jr., Edwin George, Andrea Portillos, Vincent Martinez, Christopher Martinez, Matthew Martinez, and 16 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson. In addition, she is survived by her loving Brother in-law Domingo (Sunday) Martinez and his wife Vicki, her loving step-granddaughters Amanda Martinez, Amalia Martinez, Dawna Garcia, and her many nieces, nephews, friends, and colleagues.

Services will be held at the San Antonio de Padua Catholic Church in Peñasco on Friday, October 8, 2021; viewing will begin at 10:00 AM, Rosary at 10:30, and Mass at 11:30.  Burial will take place at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on November 2, 2021, at 12:45 PM where Edumenia will be interned with her loving husband Jose. Serving as Pallbearers are Eric Martinez, Joey Chavez, Toby Bradley, Edwin George, Leroy Fresquez Jr., Vincent Martinez, Christopher Martinez, and Matthew Martinez.  Serving as Honorary Pallbearers are Gilbert Baca, Adam Portillos, Elijuah Bradley, Jaiden Bradley, Joseph Mascareñas Chavez, and Adam Portillos Jr.
