Eddie Maestas

February 9, 1947 — May 23, 2022

With much sadness we announce the passing of EDDIE MAESTAS on May 23, 2022 at the age of 75. Eddie was born in El Rito.  He was predeceased by his parents Pedro and Elena Maestas. His brothers George Maestas and Gilbert Maestas. His father-in-law Reynaldo Cordova and mother-in-law Elaiza Cordova and brothers-in-law Aggie and Peter Cordova.

Eddie proudly served our Country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as a Combat Engineer where he received two purple hearts and other medals.  He was a member of the Chapter 15 Disabled American Veterans. Serving as Adjutant for 13 years (2009-2022). Eddie also served as State Commander for the Disabled American Veterans from 2017-2018. He was an SEC (State Executive Committee) member for the last two years. Eddie worked and retired from the New Mexico State Highway Department as a Heavy Equipment Operator and Supervisor.

Eddie was a rancher/farmer for most of his life. He enjoyed raising cows, cutting and baling hay for them. His hobbies were welding, fishing, hunting and most of all carving and furniture making, where his home is filled with his pieces.  He loved his sweets, especially is wife’s homemade biscochitos

Eddie is survived by his wife of 50 years Consuelo (Connie) Maestas, his daughter Andrea Maestas, his son Antonio Maestas (Kristen) and his

Adorable grandsons Kodi and Aiden Maestas and the mother of his grandsons Kayla. His brother Rudy Maestas, Sr. (Dorain). His brothers-in-law Danny (Maxine) Cordova, Bert (Priscilla) Cordova, Archie Cordova (Virginia) and Angelo Cordova (Sandy). His sisters-in-law Isabel Cordova (Lloyd), Geneva (Victor) Cordova, Adela Maestas of Los Lunas and Betty Maestas of Tennessee.  Also many nephews and nieces, cousins and friends. God children Rudy Maestas, Jr., Adan Cordova, Alexandra Calderon, and Anntonette Cordova. And Eddie considered Michelle Sanchez as his second daughter.

Scheduled services are as follows.  Public visitation and rosary will begin on Wednesday June 8th at 5 pm in the Sangre de Christo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home.  Mass of Christian burial will take place at  the Holy Family Catholic church in Chimayo on June 9th at 8 am will burial to follow at 10 am at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.

Pallbearers Glen Cordova, Marty Cordova, Adan Cordova, Andrew Cordova, Tyler Vigil-Cordova, Augustin Calderon, Matthew Cordova, Rudy Maestas, Jr. and Christopher Martinez.

Honorary pallbearers Danny Cordova, Bert Cordova, Archie Cordova, Angelo Cordova, Victor Calderon, Lloyd Vigil, Raymond Sanchez and the Members of Chapter 15 DAV Honor Guard.

The family of Eddie Maestas has entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home of the Espanola Valley.
