Obituary

DOROTHY LEYBA,  a lifelong resident of Canjilon, New Mexico was called into eternal life on Saturday, July 17, 2021. She was born on May 19, 1940 at Placita Garcia, in Canjilon. Dorothy worked at the Ghost Ranch for 35 years. She is preceded in death by her parents, Anita and Petrolino Martinez, sons, Johnny Felipe, Leopoldo Gabino, Leo Jose Maria and Johnny Michael; grandson, Keith Patterson; daughter-in-law, Yolanda Leyba; brother, Fidel Martinez; sister-in-law, Stella Martinez, brother-in-law, Tony Stiles and in-laws, Jose Maria Maria and Senida Leyba. She was a devoted mother and a loyal friend to many. Her many friends and family knew her as kind, strong-willed, and dependable. She lived life with fierce determination. She is survived by the love of her life and husband of 63 years, Leopoldo Leyba; children, Anna husband Ronnie Delgado, Eugene wife Ardy Leyba, Laverna husband Darrell Chavez, Mark wife Brenda Leyba, and Mary Jo Leyba and companion  Gilbert Salazar; granddaughter she helped raise Elizabeth Trujillo; daughter-in-law, Lorrie Leyba; sister, Adelina Stiles, 18 grandchildren and  29 great-grandchildren. A rosary will be held on Thursday, July 22, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. at San Juan Nepomuceno Catholic Church in Canjilon. Mass will be held on Friday, July 23, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. also at the San Juan Nepomuceno Catholic Church, with a burial to follow at the Canjilon Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers are Mark Leyba Jr., Matthew Leyba, Miguel Martinez, Marcos Delgado, Jerry Martinez, and Jay Banks, honorary pallbearers, Jerome Montoya, Kash Leyba, Richard Trujillo Jr., Charles Delgado and Eugene Leyba Jr. The family of Dorothy Leyba has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley. 505-747-7477-www.devargafunerl.com
