DeShawyn Lujan

DeShawyn Lujan, 23, a resident of Abiquiu, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2020 as a result of complications from a cardiac arrest on April 10, 2019.   She was preceded in death by her maternal great-grandparents, Aquilino and Patrocinia Serrano and Abedon and Inez Arellano, paternal great-grandparents, Louisa Lujan and Ernesto Salazar.  DeShawyn was a loving daughter and sidekick to both her Mom and Dad. DeShawyn lived in Abiquiu most of her life. She was a dedicated student and volunteer and graduated from Espanola Valley High School in 2014 and became a college student from 2014 – 2019. DeShawyn earned an associate’s degree in applied science in 2017 and was scheduled to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in psychology in May of 2019. DeShawyn was working through what her career path would be. She initially considered nursing and was a state certified nursing assistant.  She learned after a summer working in this field this was not her calling. Most recently DeShawyn was considering a master’s in psychology in order to teach psychology at the college level. She was taken from us before she could decide. DeShawyn is survived by her parents, Diego and Denise Lujan; paternal grandparents, Michael and Martha Lujan, maternal grandparents, Eugene and Debbie Serrano; great-grandmother, Mela Salazar; aunt, Maria Louisa Lujan, uncles, Nathan Serrano and Miguel Lujan and numerous great aunts, uncles and cousins. Public visitation will begin on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a memorial service to follow at 1:00 p.m. Serving the family as pallbearers will be Nathan Serrano, Miguel Lujan, Jose (Bozo) Lucero, Codiee Myles, Rion Blevins, Maria Louisa Lujan.
