David E. Naranjo, 71, a resident of Velarde, New Mexico born on October 26, 1946, passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 after a lengthy illness surrounded by his loving family.   He was preceded in death by daughter, Judith; mother, Mary Martinez, father, Emilio Naranjo; father-in-law, Emilio Martinez; brothers, Milo, Joseph and Gerald Naranjo; and sister-in-law, Amy Naranjo.

David was a US Army Veteran who served in the Vietnam War, earning a Purple Heart and Bronze Star.  David was the Postmaster in Española, NM for 36 years.  He was also a lifelong Los Angeles Dodgers and Dallas Cowboys Fan.  David was a faithful Catholic and loved by his community. David was the member of a very large family who have united now to celebrate his full and enriching life.  David impacted many lives and his spirit continues to be a guiding light to all who met him. David is survived by his wife of 50 years Diolinda (Dollie) Naranjo of Velarde; daughter, Lorynn Serna (Michael) of Alcalde, son, David E. Naranjo Jr. (Cynth) of Velarde; granddaughters, Brittany (Caleb) Morgan and AthenaGrace, great grandchildren, Marahuté and Esper Armijo, and Mayson Valdez; brothers, Benny and Barney (Stella) Naranjo, sisters, Lorraine (Abedon) Lopez, Susie (Victor) Salazar and Jeanette (Kenny) Salazar; sisters-in-law, Carmen Naranjo and Evie Naranjo; mother-in-law, Corina Martinez;  half-brothers, Larry, Raul and Rubel Naranjo, and his half sisters, Anna and Margarita Naranjo and Cecilia Sanchez. A rosary will be recited on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. Memorial mass will be held on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. at our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Velarde, with a burial to follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.  Serving the family as honorary pallbearers are, Keith Garcia, Ernest Salazar, Robert Martinez, Rachel Stevens, Michael Martinez Sr., Joe Martinez, Belarmino Martinez, Victor Salazar Sr., Caleb Armijo and his brothers of the VFW Post 5610.

The family of David E. Naranjo has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
