David Archuleta, 74, a resident of Chamita and formerly of Medanales passed away peacefully on Monday, January 6, 2020 after a long hard-fought illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Severito and Renee Archuleta of Medanales; in-laws, Ramon and Naomi Herrera of Chamita; his brother, Kelly; great-granddaughter, baby Denise and many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. David worked construction all his life and was very proud of his accomplishments. He was employed by the Santa Clara Housing Authority as a Construction Project Manager until his retirement. He was known to his children as Mr. Fix-it, always putting together anything that was broken. David loved watching his grandchildren play sports and enjoyed going hunting, camping, and fishing with all his family. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need and never expected anything in return. He was the father figure to all his brothers and sisters. David is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sheila Archuleta of Chamita; three sons, David Archuleta, Jr. and wife Lisaida of Alcalde, Daniel Archuleta and wife Veronica of Rio Chiquito and Christopher Archuleta and wife Antonette of Chamita; one daughter, Crystal Johnson and husband Jerrad of Chamita; seven brothers, Kino Archuleta and wife Lena of Medanales, Gary Archuleta and wife Greg of Santa Fe, Jerry Archuleta and wife Lorraine of La Puebla, Randy Archuleta and wife Yolanda of Cleveland, Ohio, Bob Archuleta and wife Mary of Medanales, Tommy Archuleta of Medanales, and Rommie Archuleta of Alcalde; two sisters, Frances Maestas and husband Leroy of Abiquiu and Brenda Martinez and husband Julian of Medanales; 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 8 God-children and many other nieces, nephews, family and friends. Public visitation will begin on Sunday, January 12, 2020 at 5:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to follow at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, January 13, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh. Burial to follow at the San Pedro Cemetery in Chamita with the following serving the family as pallbearers, Josh, Daniel, Elias, Chuck, Davey and Gooby Archuleta, Robert Herrera and Jerrad Johnson. Honorary pallbearers are all his grandchildren and God-children. The family of David Archuleta has entrusted the care of their loved ones to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
