CORDELIA GOMEZ, 88, a resident of Pojoaque, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, March 23, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband, Randolph L. Gomez; son, James Edward Gomez, daughter, Lucy Ann Gomez; parents, Fermin and Feliciana Viarrial; brothers, Late Governor Jacob Viarrial, Ben Viarrial (Flora), Margarito Viarrial, sisters, Mary Agnes Viarrial, and Frances Viarrial; in-laws, John and Tomasita Gomez of Taos Pueblo; brothers, sisters, and in-laws from Taos Pueblo, Rufina Gomez, Marie Suazo, Catherine Gomez and Torivio Gomez. Cordelia was the last surviving Viarrial family Tribal Member who came to the Pueblo in April 1932. She received a lifetime Achievement Award from Eight Northern Indian Pueblos Council. She was an accomplished Potter and a teacher at the Pueblo of Pojoaque Head start Program. She is survived by her daughter, Christine Ruybalid (John), sons, Samuel G. Gomez (Lenora), Glenn L. Gomez and Anthony F. Gomez; grandchildren, Felicia Sena (John), Marianne A. Appa (Danny), Erica Gomez and children, Miles and Chance, Kenneth, Zachary and Hayden, Samuel Wyatt Gomez and children, Seth and Zaiden, Edward and Persaeus Gomez; brothers, Jose S. Viarrial and Ralph Viarrial, sisters, Josefina Villarreal, Dora Martinez and Phoebe Petty. Public visitation will begin on Friday, March 24, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at the Family Home at Pojoaque Pueblo, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Pojoaque, with a burial to follow at the Pojoaque Pueblo Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers, Michael Gallegos, Joseph Jacob Viarrial, Hugo Lopez, Santiago Mascarenas, Gabriel Montoya, and Jakey Viarrial, honorary pallbearers, Elvis Torres and Sam Rael.
