Clara Schwartz Riebe Peterson

d. August 14, 2021

In the early hours of August 14, 2021 a piece of the Riebe family's heart was broken. Clara Schwartz Riebe Peterson passed away at the age of 97. She was caring, devoted & generous to a fault.

Clara is survived by her children: Jae Riebe (Dave Modl) Rio Rancho, Shelly Riebe Los Alamos, Lorraine Kennedy (Brian) Austin Tx, Joe Riebe (Sandy) Rio Rancho, Chuck Riebe (Carol Valdez) Santa Fe, Debby Pacheco (John) Kirtland, Bruce Riebe (Florence) Los Alamos, 13 Grandchildren: Marvin, Ken, Mindy, Jennifer, Jon, Pheneous, Alicia, Danny, Jason, Jessica, Kyla, Meghan, Sarah; 11 Great-Grandkids: Jack, Max, Mariah, Bryson, Finn, Liam, Fiona, Sullivan, Ezra, Asher, Isaac; and Great-Great Grandchild Alonso.

Clara was preceded in death by her 1st spouse Bruce Riebe, 2nd spouse Bob Peterson, daughter Sandy Riebe, sisters Mary Anne Kostel and Joyce Meyer, son-in-law Brian Kennedy, parents Julius & Anna Povandra Schwartz.

Clara Was born in 1924 in Yankton, South Dakota. As an infant she was nicknamed Chubby and that is what her family forever called her. She graduated from Springfield High School in 1941 and attended Dakota State Normal School until she met and wed Bruce Riebe. They lived in Denver, Colorado until Bruce got a job with Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory. They moved with Sandy and Jae to Santa Fe while awaiting housing in Los Alamos where they moved in 1948 and raised 8 children.

Clara’s second marriage came while she worked for Los Alamos National Laboratory. She met and wed the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Peterson. They would enjoy many years of traveling around the world. After Bob's passing, her love of traveling continued and she took many fascinating trips with her children.

She was a regular at the White Rock Senior Center where she played Pinochle every Tuesday.  She was very committed to the Catholic church and attended mass regularly while her health allowed.

It is in these last few years that Mom had some extra care at home by some wonderful "Angels" who our family couldn't have done without. We will be forever grateful for the love, care and commitment that they showed her. Special thanks to Evelyn Dominguez, Shirley Montoya, and Lupe Valladaloid.
