Celina Martinez , 77, a resident of Chimayo, was born on November 19, 1942 and entered the Gates of Heaven on September 4, 2020 following a 10 year battle of Alzheimer’s.

Celina is preceded in death by her three sons; Ray, Genaro, and Marcos Martinez; her father, Max R Martinez; her mother Margarita Vigil and step-father Antonio Vigil; In-laws, Isidoro and Adonelia Martinez; her sister Emilia Vigil; sister, Celestina Maes and husband Juanito Maes; brother Praxedes Martinez; sisters-in-law Benita, Cecilia, and Rosita Martinez.

Celina is survived by her husband Margarito Martinez; her only daughter Valerie and husband Ray C. Moreland; grandchildren reared by her: Maegan and  Ray D. Moreland (Jameta); grandchildren: Rochelle, Andrea, Jason (Erika) and Genaro Martinez; great-grandchildren Elicia-Rhae and Miquela Martinez, Kendra and Isaiah Vargas, Jude, Israel, Mateo Martinez and Amaya Montoya-Garcia; great-great-grandchildren: Aiden and Aileen Talavera and BrookLynn Martinez; sister Beatrice and husband Fermin Perea; sisters-in-law; Corine, Louisa and Sylvia Martinez; brothers-in-law; Cornelio Martinez, Waldo and wife Rachel Martinez, and Tiburcio Vigil; along with numerous nephews, nieces, and close friends.

Celina was born in Canjilon, New Mexico to Maximino R. and Margarita Martinez. She married the love of her life Margarito Martinez and together they raised four children. She dedicated her life to the Lord at a young age and her passion was to win souls for Jesus Christ. She was a member of the Lighthouse Church in which she led the women’s ministry for many years; thereafter, her ministry spread throughout the State of New Mexico reaching out to incarcerated women. Celina was known throughout the community as a prayer warrior along with her sisters-in-Christ Betty Lou Martinez, Lela Martinez and Diana Quintana.

The family would like to thank the special people who helped care for Celina during her illness: A God-sent angel, Audrey Trujillo, who is now considered family, Virginia who devoted 7 years caring for her, Mary Jo, Claudette, Trish, Devonna, Nora, Rebecca, her niece Joyce who blessed her with flowers on many occasions, Janice, Chaplin Mike and the entire Addus and AmberCare staff.

A Devotional Service will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at 7:00 PM at the Lighthouse Church in Chimayo. Funeral will take place on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at 10:00 AM at the Lighthouse Church and Christian burial will immediately follow at the Lighthouse Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers are Ray C. Moreland, Ray D. Moreland, Jason Martinez, Genaro Martinez, Cornelio Jr. Martinez and Julian Trujillo.
