Cecilia Velasquez

d. August 27, 2019

Cecilia M. Velasquez, 95, a resident of Youngsville, NM was welcomed into Heaven on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 surrounded by family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Uvaldo Velasquez, Father, Isaac Morfin and Mother, Patrocinia Morfin; step-mother, Rita; brothers, Noel and David, sisters, Arsenia and Priscilla Morfin.

Cecilia Maria Velasquez was born in Mesa De Poleo to Isaac and Patrocinia Morfin.  She was the first of seven children and would eventually follow in the footsteps of her father who was a minister.  She completed Bible College in Texas in spite of only having a third grade elementary education.  She would be a pioneer figure throughout her life in the many endeavors she undertook.

As a young teen, as it was for many people of her generation, she helped support her family through The Great Depression by harvesting and selling fruits and vegetables.  This would transcend into a hobby and lifestyle as her green thumb could make anything grow!  Everything from fruit and vegetables to spectacular flower gardens would thrive under her nurturing.  Landscaping was also a large part of her flower gardens as she built stone flower beds, hornos and beautiful walls.

Her greatest passion was preaching, teaching and leading lives to the Lord and was something she practiced most of her life.  She officially became an ordained minister in 1977 and was a pastor for the Assemblies of God Church in Canones, Rio Chiquito, Gallina and Salitrar (Coyote), NM.  During this time she also served as President of the Women’s Ministry for the District which encompassed several states and was active in ministry until her eighties.  Unofficially she never stopped preaching, teaching or praying for others and did so until her last breath.

Her greatest accomplishment in life was being a wife, when she married Uvaldo in November 1946 and being a mother to five children, whom she is survived by, Patsy Serrano (Paul) of Youngsville, NM, Eli Velasquez (Vangie) of Farmington, NM, Velma Lovato (Randy) of Espanola, NM, Stella Salazar of Youngsville, NM and Eloy Velasquez (Annette) of Albuquerque, NM; grandmother to 14 grandchildren, great grandmother to 22 children and sister to Beulah and Paul.  She leaves behind a great legacy of future generations serving the Lord. Public visitation will begin on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. in the Coronado School Auditorium with a devotional service to follow at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be celebrated on Friday September 6, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. also in the Coronado School Auditorium with a burial to take place at 2:15 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Velasquez has entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley. 505-747-7477
