Betty Martinez

BETTY L. MARTINEZ, 81 , Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, was welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus on Sunday August 23, 2020 surrounded by her family.  Betty was a lifelong resident of Chimayo, New Mexico. Born June 22, 1939. She was preceded in death by her parents, Juan F. Martinez and Josie Ortiz Martinez, the love of her life her husband, of 56 years Filimon V. Martinez, Father and mother-in-law, Melecio and Amalia Martinez; Son-in-law, Daniel Pete Padilla. Betty loved praising the Lord and going to church. She enjoyed getting together with the women of the church for prayer every Tuesday at The New Hope Family Worship Center. Betty worked with the women’s home at the Rock Christian Outreach, and also went to various women’s prisons to sing, and talk to the inmates about the love of Jesus. She spent a lot of her time praying for her own family as well. She was the pillar of her family, and instilled the love of the Lord in all her children.  Betty is survived by her son, Lenny Martinez (Beverly), granddaughters, Leslie Martinez, Leanna Martinez Fresquez (Antonio), great-grandson, Dominic Martinez, great-granddaughter, Alana  Fresquez, great-grandson, Anjel Fresquez, daughter, Liz Martinez Padilla, granddaughter, Amy Padilla, and great-granddaughter, Brianna Archuleta, granddaughter,  Andrea Padilla (Jacob), daughter, Jackie Martinez Berry (Eugene), granddaughter, Franchesca Martinez,  son, John Israel Martinez (Melvina), grandson, Israel Martinez Jr. (Tiffany), granddaughter, Monique Martinez, daughter, Renee Martinez (Antonio), granddaughter,  Sheanee Martinez; brothers, Emilio Ortiz, and Juan Martinez (Cleo), Arturo Martinez (Elida), along with several nieces and nephews. Betty was very loved and will be greatly missed.  Public visitation will begin on Friday, August 28, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. on the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory in Española with a Devotional Service to follow at 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at the New Hope Family Worship Center in El Llano with a burial to follow at the Lighthouse Cemetery in Chimayo. Serving the family as pallbearers are Anthony Bustos, Justin Madrid, Jacob Valdez, Israel Martinez Jr., Antonio Trujillo, Vince Martinez and Michael Martinez. The family of Betty L.
