Arthur H. (Tudy) Martinez passed away peacefully at home due to a lengthy illness, in the early morning of September 2nd 2020 with his family at his side.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ramon and Onofre Martinez of Alcalde NM, father and mother in-law Josephino and Elizaida Romero of Estaca NM, son Arthur Martinez Jr. sister Sally Vigil, brothers Gilbert and Feliberto Martinez, brother in-laws Benny Vigil, Jose Romero, Jerry Maestas, Gilbert Salazar and Leroy Romero, nephews Richard Martinez, Mark Martinez and niece Anna Marie Romero.


Arthur was born on July 6th 1934 to Ramon and Onofre Martinez,  he served his country in the army for 2 years, upon returning home he began his teaching career in the early 1960s with the Cuba Public Schools, soon after he returned home to Alcalde to finish his career as a teacher and principal and retired from the Espanola Public Schools in 1988.  Following his retirement Arthur opened a small engine repair shop in Alcalde “Country Small Engine” and successfully ran the business for 20 years. He loved Gardening, he supported and attended most of the Espanola Sundevils basketball games, A devoted Catholic, he studied and practiced his faith and carried it down to his Daughters and Grandchildren. His Grandchildren and great Grandchildren were the light of his life. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and loved him.

Arthur is survived by his wife of 61 years Marie (Carnation) Martinez, his daughters Paulette Lopez, Eva Medina (Jimmy) and Roberta Sanchez (Paul). Grandchildren Nicole Pereyra (Omar), Crystal Roybal, Tiffany Maestas, Jerome Martinez, Jennifer Medina and Brittany Lopez (Abraham). Great grandchildren Alexia and Feliciana Pereyra, Jonah and Jaxon Roybal, Hailey Lopez, Devin Atencio, Isaiah and Yair Castro and Xavier Martinez.  Sisters Felipa Romero, Flora Maestas, and Vangie Salazar. Brother in-law Floyd Romero (Delfinia) and sister in-law Mable Salazar (Alex). Several special nephews, nieces and close friends.

Serving the family as pallbearers are Jimmy Medina, Paul Sanchez, Jerome Martinez, Floyd Romero, Jerry Maestas Jr. and Omar Pereyra. Honorary pallbearers are John Alex Salazar, Godsons Lawrence Romero, Xavier Martinez, John Alex Salazar Jr.  as well as all his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The family of Arthur H. (Tudy) Martinez, would like to give special thanks to Gloria Ulibarri and Lillian Villalobos (caregivers) for their kind and wonderful care given to Arthur. Special thanks to Hospice (Legacy) staff Barbara Tubb, Carmen Salazar and Sasha Salazar

Public visitation will begin on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home and Crematory in Espanola, NM with a Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be held  on Friday, September 11, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at San Juan Bautista Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh. Burial will be held at 12:30 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery, only immediate family will be allowed due to COVID requirements. Masks are required for the Rosary and Mass and a limit of 75 people will be allowed at both the Rosary and Mass. The family of Arthur H.
