ANTHONETTE MONTOYA, 76, a resident of Española, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2020. She was preceded in death by her spouse, Jerry Montoya; parents, Jose Bartolo and Helen Valdez; in-laws, Jose B. and Natividad Montoya; God-son, Lucas Randall, nephews, Jacob and Joshua Garcia. Anthonette retired from Espanola Public Schools in 2008. During her employment she held many positions with her last being registrar. She also was the Head coach for softball numerous years as well as an assistant coach for Volleyball and basketball. She loved helping her students and thought of them as family. She is survived by her daughter, Patsy Rocha (Juan) of California, son, Joseph Montoya (Anna) of Espanola; grandchildren, Kaity Wolf (Marcus) of Santa Fe, Robby Wolf (Tori) of Santa Fe, Ryan and Austin Rocha, Nicole Rendon (Juan) of Hernandez, Frankie Rendon, Nikki Salazar (Jay) of Colorado, Max and Casey Salazar; brother Peter Valdez (Pam) of Santa Cruz, sisters, Mary Ann Maestas, Mary Alice Garcia (Robert), Mary Lou Garcia (Robert); sisters-in-law, Rose Valdez, Stella Randall (Emilio), Yolando Galvez (Pancho); special aunt, Isabel Vigil; great-grandchildren, Dominic, Brayden, Aubrey, Jacob, Nakyla, and Olivia; special friends that she enjoyed lunch with once month,  Patsy Chavez, Anna Espinoza, Karen Duran, Irma Chavez, JoAnn Archuleta, Barbara Valdez, Sandra Valdez and Linda Sanchez. Public Visitation will begin on Monday, July 6, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at 8:00 a.m. at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Santa Cruz. Burial to follow at 10:30 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers are Robbie Garcia, Leonard Valdez, Angel Valdez, Justin Garcia, Fernando Galvez, Chris Trujillo, Eddie Maestas, and Jimmy Vigil, honorary pallbearers named are her nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and all the girls that played softball for her at Espanola Valley High School.
