Mom, Grandma, ANITA MARIA SANCHEZ, passed away peacefully at the beautiful age of 98 on March 30, 2021.  Anita was a wonderful, strong, determined, caring, and independent woman. A woman with a strong faith in God, Anita is now in peace in the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ and suffers no longer. We will miss her every day, but Anita’s love of life did not come to an end with her death.  Her beautiful life will forever be cherished by those who loved her.

The simple pleasures in life brought great joy to Anita. She loved creating and sharing delicious meals for her family. She loved nothing more than to be surrounded by her loved ones. Anita’s children and grandchildren were her heart and joy. Family meant everything to her. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and dancing. Anita also served as a member of the American Legion for many years

Anita was one of the several children born to Rubel and Euchridis Martinez. She has many relatives in the Chamisal, Rodarte, Dixon, and Santa Fe area.

Anita was married to Leonel Sanchez of Dixon and was the proud mother of six children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rubel and Euchridis Martinez; husband, Leonel Sanchez; sons, Thomas Sanchez, and Leo Sanchez; daughter-in-law, Loretta Sanchez and other loved ones and siblings that have passed before her.

Anita is survived by children, Rose Sandoval, Steve Sanchez, Manuel Sanchez and wife Loren, and Ramon Sanchez; brothers, Phil Martinez, and Rubel Martinez; sister, Bernie and many other relatives and grandchildren. “La Reina” Anita M. Sanchez legacy is incredible and will continue on. Through her blood line she has four generations and eighty souls to carry on Sanchez blood. Six children, nineteen grandchildren, thirty-four great-grandchildren, and twenty-one great-great-grandchildren. Anita may be gone from our sight, but she will never be gone from our heart.

A rosary will be recited on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Santa Cruz with a memorial mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial to follow at the Peñasco Cemetery. The family of Anita Maria Sanchez has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
