Adolfo Gasca Jr.

October 16, 1943 — January 5, 2022

Adolfo R. Gasca, Jr. “Fito” 78, a resident of Velarde, NM passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, January 5, 2022.

Fito is preceded in death by his parents, Adolfo and Ermelinda Gasca; stepmothers, Mary Gasca and Alvinita Gasca; brothers, Ernie, Eddie, Jesse, David, and Horace Gasca; Paternal grandparents, Pablino and Perfecta Gasca; Maternal grandparents, Damian and Senaida Lujan. Many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Fito was a hard worker.  At a young age he helped his father at the family ranch with farming. Farming became his passion in later years helping family and different local farmers in the fields and their apple orchards. He also enjoyed doing mechanic work. Later on, he enlisted in the US Army in 1962 and served for 5 years.  He was Honorably Discharged from the reserves in 1970. Fito loved spending time cruising the back roads of Velarde visiting family and friends and making new ones.  He would fly to see his sons in Louisiana, even though he hated flying. Family was very important to him.  He loved all his family. He enjoyed watching western movies when he had downtime in the evenings. Fito’s passion in life was helping family, farming, and tending to his animals.

Fito is survived by sons, Gilbert Gasca (Tammy), and his children, Chris Gasca (Meagan) Jessica Gasca and her children, Carson and Emma; Kristian Gasca Pirtle (James) and their child, Kameron; Ray Gasca (Becky) and their children, Sierra and Dakota; Edward Gasca (Amber) and their children, Raven, Robert, and Breyden; mother of his children, Nancy Esquibel Lawrence, siblings, Dolores Gasca, Jake (Josephine) Gasca, Charlie (Yolanda) Gasca, Pablino (Donnie) Gasca, Annabelle Gasca (LeAnn) Barney Gasca; 7 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, many nephews and nieces, two very close aunts Ramona and Carmen, and close friends Larry Vigil, Michelle Salazar, Lana Garcia, and Gina Montoya.

Public visitation will be at DeVargas Funeral Home and Crematory, Espanola, NM, on Monday, January 17, 2022 at 5:00 pm followed by a rosary at 6:00 pm.  Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at 11:00 am. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Velarde with burial to follow at the Velarde Catholic Cemetery.
