Adelinda Martinez

Adelinda "Linda" Martinez, 83 of Espanola, passed away on June 7, 2022 after a lengthy illness. She was born on August 28, 1938, in Coyote, NM to the late Delubina and Elias Garcia, Sr. She was raised on a ranch alongside her six sisters and three brothers. She graduated from Espanola High School in 1957.  She attended Business College in Albuquerque in 1958. She went on to work for the State of New Mexico. Once she became a mother, she began her career with the Espanola Public Schools working as a teacher’s aide, allowing her time with her children. When her children were grown, she became a guard with Mason and Hanger with the Los Alamos National Laboratory in the year 1983 until 1991. Thereafter, her primary focus became her grandchildren and assuring she could take part in their upbringing. She was the matriarch of her family and took pride in this role. Her compassion, kindness, and charisma made an impression in all who knew her. She was truly one of a kind and will be missed by many.

She is proceeded in death by her parents; Husband, Benigno Martinez; Sisters, Amelia Garcia, Francisca Garcia, Magdalena Romero, Arcelia Lopez, Amelia Lujan; Brothers, Frank Garcia, Elias Garcia, Jr., and Max Garcia; Sister-In-Laws, Estella Garcia, Rosario Gutierrez, Roberta Perez, Ramona Janacek, Alice Lopez, and Mary Kerr; Brother-In-Laws, Abel Romero, Isidoro “Lolo” Gomez, Melisendro “Mel” Lopez, Valentin “Tino” Borunda, Eugene “Gene” Lujan, Emilio Gutierrez, Bobby Perez, and J.C. Kerr; and Great Granddaughter, Scarlett Martinez. Also, raised like a brother, her Uncle Celso Maestas.

She is survived by her children, Benny (Ruby), Paul (Karen), Yolanda (Pablo) and Rick (Liddie) Martinez. Her sisters, Isa Borunda, Elvira (Johnny) Archuleta, Dolores Garcia, Sister-In-Laws, Eva Garcia, Pauline Candee, Connie Dominguez (Guillermo), Josie Roybal (Gerald), Arlene Muhich and Brother-In-Law, Sam Whittington (Irma). Eight grandchildren, Jamie Martinez, Miranda (Joseph) Salazar, Isaac (Serra) Martinez, Jesus (Britney) Martinez, Ian (Alex) Martinez, Isaiah (Miquella) Martinez, Armando (Lisa) Martinez, and Gabriel Martinez. She is also survived by many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Serving as Pallbearers are her six grandsons: Isaac, Jesus, Ian, Isaiah, Armando, and Gabriel Martinez. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers are her four children and her two granddaughters: Benny, Paul, Yolanda, Rick, Jamie and Miranda.

A public visitation will begin on June 21, 2022 at 6:00 pm in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel with a Rosary to follow at 7:00 and a Mass of Christian Burial will be on June 23, 2022 at 10:00 am at Santa Cruz de La Canada and burial to follow at Holy Cross cemetery.
