Zoraida (Zori) Martinez passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, May 17, 2025, surrounded by family and love.
Born on October 6, 1929, in Las Nutrias, New Mexico, Zori lived a life marked by strength, passion, and deep devotion to those she loved. She was known for her strong opinions and unshakable determination; once she had an idea in her head, there was no convincing her otherwise. Zori retired from the State of New Mexico, where she worked in custodial services. Throughout her life, she also served as a devoted caregiver to many. She challenged the status quo with confidence and conviction. A gifted gardener, she possessed a green thumb that could outshine anyone’s. Zori was also an extraordinary cook and baker, creating meals that brought comfort and joy to her family. Music brought her great happiness throughout her life, especially the sweet sound of her great-granddaughter Lizzie singing her songs before bed—a cherished memory for all who witnessed their bond.
She was preceded in death by her father Jesus Baca and mother Magdalena Baca. She was also preceded by her beloved husband Willie A. Martinez; sisters, Estefanita Rascon and Esperanza Gonzales; brothers John Baca and Roy Baca; sons Willie Martinez, and Andy Martinez; granddaughter Annette Martinez; grandson Michael Garcia; great-grandson Keaton Herman; and her son-in-law Josef Kulka.
She is survived by her siblings: Socie Hunt (Edgar), Flavio Baca (Esther), and Bertha Arnold (Roger), as well as her brother-in-law, Nelson Gonzales. Her children: Debra Kulka, Jesse Martinez, Eric Martinez (Raffie), and Floyd Martinez (Ruby). She is also survived by her grandchildren: Shawn Conner, Andrea Gallegos (Anthony), Leonard Romero, Amanda Martinez, Ashley Martinez, Amalia Martinez, Nadine Martinez, Dawna Garcia, Holly Martinez and her great-grandchildren: Conner, Tia, Julianna, Arianna, Lisette, Jagger, Estevon, Kobe, Bryant, Madison, and Elizabeth. In addition to her immediate family, she leaves behind countless other family members and loved ones who shared a deep and enduring love with her.
