Yolanda
Martinez
June 2, 2026
Yolanda Martinez, 77, of Chamita, New Mexico, entered into eternal rest on June 2nd, 2026, surrounded by the family she loved so deeply.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Lucero; her maternal grandmother, Aggie Maestas; her great‑nephew, Antonio Valdez; and her sister‑in‑law, Ella Baros.
For 25 years, Yolanda worked as the librarian at San Juan Elementary, supporting and educating the students she served. Even after retirement, she never stopped giving. A true jack‑of‑all‑trades, she held many part‑time jobs over the years—from supporting youth in summer programs, to creating beautiful flower arrangements at a local flower shop, to selling Avon. Her greatest calling, however, was caregiving. She lovingly helped raise her grandchildren and great‑grandchildren and served as her mother’s primary caregiver until her mother was called home. She was a wonderful cook, especially known for her homemade tortillas.
She was an avid reader, and just like the books she treasured, she was a character. Yolanda had a gift for storytelling. She could light up a room with her humor, her unique sayings, and her ability to turn everyday moments into unforgettable memories. She enjoyed her daily walks, her novelas, Elvis music, and spending time with her family.
Yolanda was a devout Catholic and a proud member of San Juan Parish, where she faithfully served in weekly adoration.
She is survived by her son, Carlos Martinez; daughters, Aggie Mendez (Gabino) and Rebecca Dupree; her siblings, Ricky Baros and Josie Valdez (Ralph); her grandchildren, Ivan, Karina, Jessica, Rocio Mendez, and Angel Martinez; her nephews, Melaquias (Julie), Eric (Lisa), Joey, Jose (Samantha), and Ben; her beloved great‑grandchildren, Emilio, William, Amaris, and Kamila; her special cousin, Sylvia Herrera; and her best friends, Eva and Lupita, who were like sisters to her; as well as many more cherished extended family members and friends.
