William Segura, Jr., 65, a resident of Chamita, NM left this earth on February 27, 2013. He was born and raised in Albuquerque, NM and lived his life in Chamita, NM with the love of his life, Theodora Segura.\r\nWillie Served 38 years with the US Postal Service in Grants, Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Española, was the Postmaster in Chimayo, and spent his last 11 years as the Postmaster in the Village of Abiquiu, a community he loved with all his heart. William was proud to serve his country for six years in Vietnam in the US Air Force as a Sergeant and Air Commando and was always eager to talk about his experiences overseas. He never let a service member walk away without saluting and taking the time to thank them for their service in the armed forces. He had an exceptional sense of humor, a great laugh and had a knack for getting to know people better.\r\nWilliam spent his life coaching little league, was an exceptional mechanic, artist, builder, businessman, a true jack of all trades with a creative mind and lively spirit. He loved nature, fishing and hunting in the mountains of Northern New Mexico with his son William Segura III, and spending quality time with his loving wife Theodora.\r\nHe was a loving husband, father and great friends to all, a true example of an exceptional human being that found the secret to life was to stop, take time to listen and make people happy. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and community that got to know and love him.\r\nWilliam was preceded in death by his parents, William Segura Sr. and Margaret Segura of Albuquerque; mother-in-law, Socorro Gallegos of Chamita; niece, Debbie Casias of Chamita; nephew, Christopher Martinez of Chamita.\r\nHe is survived by his wife of 44 years, Theodora Segura; children: Marquetta and husband Jude Tachias of Albuquerque, Wanda DeVargas and husband Philip of Parker, Colorado, William Segura III and wife Natalie Gallegos; grandchildren: Eastwood and Leonidas Tachias and Gabriela Segura. He has honorary daughters: Louisa Padilla, Deluvina Gallegos, Bernadette Casias and Debbie Casias of Chamita; brothers/sisters: Joseph Gallegos and wife Lora, Andy Casias and wife Charlotte of Chamita, Emilio Vigil and wife Angie, Mary Louise, Doris, Bertha, Martha, Ruby, Harry and Edward of Albuquerque, NM; numerous nieces, nephews and other loving relatives & friends. A Rosary will be recited on Monday, March 4, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh with burial to take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:15 p.m. with the following serving the family as pallbearers: William Segura III, Philip DeVargas, Joseph Gallegos, Shawn Abeyta, Nick Archuleta (Los Luceros), Steve Herrera (Española), Chris Ramos (Rowe), Andres Padilla (Chamita) and Dilio Archuleta (Chimayo); honorary pallbearers: Jude Tachias, Baudilio Baca, Harold Martinez, Joseph Sanchez, Bernadette Casias, Deluvina Gallegos, Louisa Padilla, Tammy Griffith, Anthony Padilla and Alex Maestas. The family of William Segura Jr. have entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
