Wilfred Ortiz

Wilfred Eugene Ortiz, 61, born June 15th, 1960, passed away on July 29th, 2021. He was a lifelong resident of Dixon, NM where he lived close by his family.

He is preceded in death by his mother Minnie Maes, father Ben Ortiz Sr., brother; Victor Ortiz, grandparents Emilia Martinez, Felix Maes, Virginia Martinez, Manuel Ortiz Sr., and many other relatives.

He is survived by his daughters; Alegra (Juan) Ortiz-Niño and children Maria Rosalia Ortiz-Niño, Feliciana Ortiz-Niño, and Serenity Ortiz; Dinah (Aaron Sanchez) Ortiz and children Bentley Martinez, and Essence Sanchez. Son, Michael Muniz and his children Estrella and Weslee Muniz. Siblings; Catherine Chacon and her children Victoria, Eugene, and Christopher. Edna Gallegos and her children Charlotte, Leonard, Carmella, Emanuel, and Hannah. Brenda Ortiz and her children Desiray Ortiz, and Melonie Ortiz. Clyde (Amy) Maes and their child Valentine Maes. Ben Ortiz Jr. and his children Julian Vigil, Santana Ortiz, and Tony Ortiz as well as many grand nieces and nephews who he loved dearly. His Aunt Theresa (Jose) Marquez as well as many primos and primas in Colorado and around New Mexico. He is also survived by his very special lifelong friends Clyde Griego, Roberto, and Dale.

Wilfred worked hauling wood for his family and worked construction in Pecos. He was a very easy going and loved all his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He could spark a conversation with anyone. He was well known in his community. If he could help you, he would lend a helping hand and make you laugh. He spent a lot of time with his family and watching over them making sure they were okay. We were very close to him. He could never stay mad with anybody. We will miss you father, brother, nephew, uncle and to everyone’s life he was apart of.

Services will take place August 19th at 10:00 am in the Sangre De Cristo Chapel at the DeVargas Funeral Home of Espanola with burial to follow in Dixon.

Pallbearers will be Aaron Sanchez, Judy Maes, Annette Maes, Norman Jr., Sammy Martinez, and Juan Niño.

Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandchildren: Maria Rosalia, Feliciana, Serenity, Bentley, and Essence.
