Wallace “Tuffy” Harelson, 91, September 12, 1919 – May 27, 2011 Tuffy was born in Vaughn, NM, graduated from Belen High School. After serving with the 8th Air force in England during WWII he went to work in Los Alamos, NM where he met his wife Genevieve McCoy. They were married on December 10, 1949. Their only son, Robert “Bob” Harelson passed away June 2001. Tuffy retired from Los Alamos in 1985 and moved to La Mesilla. He greatly loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, singing by the campfire & telling never ending jokes. He was an active member of First Baptist Church in Española, Shriners International, Masonic Valley Lodge NO. 69AF&AM. Wallace was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Harelson; sisters: Helen Vordenbaum, Betty Williams and Jerry Stevenson. He is survived by his wife, Genevieve; brother, Bill Harelson (Johnnie); sister, Bobby Graham; special niece, Debbie Zerwekh (Sam); nephew, Jim Matheson; many more loving family & friends. Public visitation will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace at DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. Funeral service will be held on Friday, June 3, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Española with interment to take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. The family of Wallace “Tuffy” Harelson has entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley. 505-747-7477
