Tony Lucero, 90, a resident of Española went to be with his Heavenly Father after a brief illness on Friday, May 13, 2011. Tony was born on September 29, 1920 to Juan B. Lucero and Fransiquita, also preceding Tony in death. Tony retired after 43 years of service with Hunter Motors as a sales representative. Tony was a great sports fan, a diehard Yankee fan. Tony and Bertha traveled to a couple of World Series and other parts of the country – Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Alaska and Mexico. He was preceded in death by sister, Rosina Maestas; brothers: Arturo Chato Lucero and Armando Lucero who was killed in World War II. Tony is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Bertha Lucero of the family home; sons: Armando (Hack) Lucero, Frank Lucero; a grandson raised like a son, Paul Lucero all of El Guache; granddaughter, Shelly Olguin and husband Robert of San Pedro; great-granddaughter, Danekah Olguin of San Pedro; brother, Ben Lucero and family of Las Vegas, NV. Also surviving Tony is a very special dear and close friend of the family, Carol Martinez of Lyden; 3 very dear sisters-in-law: Pita Trujillo and Ruby Sanders of Albuquerque and Fl ora Montoya of San Pedro; very special niece, Berlina Herrera. Public visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at 3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel at DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. A second public visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Española with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Española with interment to follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 11:15 a.m. with the following serving as pallbearers: Flavio Montoya, Albert Martinez, Tommy Rodella, Miguel Vigil, Chris Roybal and Ben Valdez; honorary pallbearers: Mickey Montoya, David Salazar, Ernesto Vigil and Robert Olguin.
