Tonie (Vigil) Cordova, 90, a resident of Valley Estates/Fairview passed away on August 3, 2021, surrounded by her loving family and caregivers. She was born in Guachupangue, NM on July 13, 1931, to Jose Desiderio and Faustinita Garcia Vigil. Tonie was a smart, independent and beautiful woman, a very loving and generous mother to her beloved daughters Carolyn and Francie, a sister who loved her siblings immensely, and a cherished grandma and great-grandma.
Tonie had a high work ethic and worked at the Los Alamos National Labs for more than 3 decades, eventually working her way up to the role of Administrator for the LANL Controller. Upon her retirement, she spent her time enjoying life; travelling, attending the Santa Fe Opera and trying her luck at the local casinos. She was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Frank J. Cordova, her loving parents Desiderio and Faustina, her three brothers: Felix R., Gilbert R. and Horacio D. Vigil and her “best-friend and sister, Magdalena (Maggie) Vigil. She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Romero (Rick) and Francie Cordova (James Perez), her grandchildren Ricardo (Crystal), Joe (Kim) and Cris Romero; by her beloved grand-daughter Adiana Cordova; great-grand-daughters Myriah, Ava and Xadriyanna Romero and brothers Dr. John C. Vigil (Bessie) of Albuquerque, Ernesto (Arturo) Vigil (Dora) of Chimayo, Wilfredo A. Vigil of El Duende; nephew David Salazar (Gina) and several other close nieces, nephews & other loving relatives and friends.
Public visitation will begin on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, August 20, 2021 at 11:45 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Espanola with a burial to follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. The following will be carrying Tonie to her final resting place: Joey, Ricardo and Cris Romero, Adiana Cordova, and David Salazar.
