TOMASITA (TOMMIE) C. HERRERA , 82, a resident of La Mesa De Poleo, passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2020. Tommie was preceded in death by her husband, Levi Herrera 80 years old; her parents, Donaciano and Santana Salazar; grandparents, Tomas and Emilia Velasquez, Crescenio and Reynalda Salazar, and other relatives. Tommie was a well-known, respected, and liked woman in the community, she was a hard worker all her life, all who knew her, knew her as a woman of great passion in all that she did. Tommie catered for weddings, and parties, and was a cook at the Jemez Mountain Public schools for many years, she was a caregiver even as a senior herself. Tommie would worry when her children would go out, she stayed up at night until her children got home safe. When her children were sick, she nurtured them back to health. At times she would stay up with them to ensure that her children would be okay. Tommie would always bless her children and all her grandchildren with the sign of the cross on their forehead.  Her children were the most important thing in her life. Her family was incredibly blessed to have her as a role model in their lives. Tommie is survived by her four children, Alice Herrera and partner Ralph Esquibel of Albuquerque, Levi Herrera Jr., Ruby Porch and husband Randy of Virginia, and Clorinda Alvarado of Florida; grandchildren, Louis Branch, Anthony Branch, Patrick Branch, Christopher Herrera, Levi Herrera III, Anna Ortiz, Kathrine Porch, Victoria Porch, Levi Porch, Monique Herrera, and Joshua Wilson; brothers and sisters, Delfin Salazar, Leo Salazar, Rae Atencio, Connie Martinez, Roy Salazar, Lilian Ortaga, Anita Herrera, Marilyn Nozarek, Don Salazar, and Press Salazar. Public visitation will be held on Sunday, November 30, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to follow at 3:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 30, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Santa Teresa Catholic Church in Mesa de Poleo.  Burial will follow at the Mesa de Poleo Cemetery. The family of Tomasita (Tommie) C. Herrera has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
